IRC is not allowed on our network, per our TOS as it tends to cause attacks and other issues.

You'll be lucky to find any host or even dedicated server provider worth their salt that will allow IRC related traffic on their network.

well, this is what i am going to do

I am not looking for a place to run a IRC server which wil be a part of a IRC network. i am looking for a private ircd run on my server to just to communicate with the flash applect i am developing. the flash chat i am doing will be using the IRCD protocal to manage the chat sessions. so, it will be just like a anohter chat server. i just used IRCD prototal becase its more like a standard.

any comments?

I think the issue is w/ the resources, as well, ultimately vixen or admin will say yah or nay. If you dev it then it creates a problem they could kill it at any time so you want to get that straight. IRC of any kind is just resource intensive.

Actually, a basic ircd like 2.10.x is not terribly expensive to run. We don't allow daemons to be run on the shared servers, that's all.

Enter-sys,
I understand that you're trying to stick with standards using IRC. What level of security will you need? IRC's not an innately secure protocol, so, would using a public server like irc.freenode.net meet your client's needs? To add a layer of security (obscurity) you could manage dynamic channel names with some server-side app/script.

Just a thought...

If not configured correctly though they can be abused and thats another reason why any host worth their salt wont touch ANY form of IRC daemon.

Well, that still sounds like a daemon, and if we caught something running w/o you logged in, we'd remove it and probably your shell access too. Web hosting is for web hosting only... Chat scripts can run without a daemon, but even web based ones sometimes get turned off for creating high load on the box...

i seem can't get all what you mean ( maybe my english not so good ) but if i'm not wrong ircd should run on shell , maybe you can contact shell provider for that one ( most of them run base on linux or freebsd , seem never heard shell based on window ) don't know it is what you want .

thanks for everyone who replied to this thred. i learned that IRC is not the way to go, i will be developing a system in a such way where the flash will be talking to the server using http. i think thats the best way to do this.
