How to initiate MP3 download from webserver?

Can anyone tell me how to get mp3 files to work when hosted on windows servers? I am trying to add a link to download an mp3 radio ad for one of my customers. Shouldn't I just upload the file and create a link to it? The mp3 doesn't seem to work when downloaded from the web server? Is there some sort of script that has to be used to initiate the download?

Any help is appreciated.

Christina

yes, by default the mp3 file should download and/or play based on the users settings.

Maybe there is something wrong with the file. How did you upload it? Make sure your FTP settings allow binary uploads.

I used DWMX to upload the file, maybe I need to check the upload settings in DW for this type of file?

Thanks, at least now I know it's probably the file...

Well, I checked the upload and it is being transfered in binary mode. Tried re-uploading but same problem. I can't figure it out.

The file is located here:

Would anyone mind trying it for me?

Hi, I was able to download (Save As File) AND stream the file. When you say it doesn't work, does the appropriate player open up or are your prompted to save the file? Could it be a codec problem?

Works fine here. If you're using windows media player, go into Tools|Options and select "Dowload codecs Automatically".

I tried it too and it works fine if you "save as" and play if from your PC, but fails if you stream. What did you use to encode it?

also be sure you've set your media player to be the one to open mp3's. If you're using WMP, go to tools/options/file types and check off mp3, otherwise you'll be prompted to open or save the file.

Nice ad by the way.

Try to play this link, and see if it works now. It's a re-encoding.

If it works, just 'save as' and put over the one you're trying to use. My guess is it was just a bad encoding, and the fact that WMP is picky

Wow, thanks all, I guess it was my player (real player), it would automatically download the file to a temp folder and then play it (but nothing would happen). It was like the temp file failed? Hmmm, well I uninstalled real player and configured wmp to default mp3's and all works great now.

I should probably post some instructions before downloading.

Thanks for all your help.
