If I were Vortech's management, i would be very concerned that these issues keep surfacing. There is only so much that customers will take.
The bottom line is that I just can't keep having outages and customers breathing down my back each time something like this occurs.
everything seems to be back up fine again.
thanks
Actually the only other network issues we've had was a year ago, which was a similar DDoS attack.

Someone please start new threads to discuss DoS and to rant at VT for allowing you to be a reseller, and invite others to join them.

Please keep this thread progress/delay announcement-related and keep it lean.

i specifically remember calling in about 1 month ago and they said that one of the DNS Server swent down, therefore I was not able to get to my sites.

no matter the size of the disaster it is still a disaster of equal importance, if when the customer doesn't have access to their services they pay for.

thanks for setting up the forum for those who know how to get here to view the status. for those who don't, how do you communicate the issue?

just out of curiosity... what was the total timeframe for this outage? (dates \ times)

thanks

This isn't funny... but it is ironic....

now... hostoffline.com is offline. What a world, what a world.

(no... it is not in Florida, it's in Scottsdale.)

Thanks to everyone and a quick question on the possibility of recurrence.

Admins at Vortech,
Thank you very much for your efforts during this tough time for everyone.
Question - based on your experience, do these DDoS attacks continue for a few days after stopping them the first time? Should we be on alert status and have our Account Managers be prepared to receive calls from our clients over the next few days due to this issue recurring?
Thanks to everyone else who posted on this thread. It was the only thing that kept me sane for the last few hours. When this first started last night, I stayed up for a while but finally just fell asleep. But since I woke up this morning, I have been on edge (beyond stressed out) and the only thing that kept my sanity was checking this thread and hearing others' thoughts.
In support of the excellent services at Vortech - I have been a loyal customer of Vortech since 2004 after trying at least 15 other well researched hosting companies (from 2000).
In addition to their low prices, I believe 2 things about Vortech -
1. The folks in Support do care about providing an excellent level of service to all of us.
2. Every aspect of their services seems to have been well thought out with the needs of the customer in mind. For the breadth of services my company offers, I haven't found anyone else who can support us as well as Vortech can.
Thanks again to everyone.

hari,

Does attacks can come and go as fast as anything else or they can stick around. Problem is we can null route our ips that they attack but the ips they are coming from are either in the 100,000's of thousands or not even real address. So we start with a block of ip we know they are attacking and then figure out what kind of attack it is try and stop it and also try and find just what they are attacking a site, a server, a IP etc.

Techs have been working all night to get it this attack stopped and we will keep going until the attack is 100% taken care of.

Just to let everybody know. I submitted a request for credit for the downtime and was told that the DDos was out of their control so they will not be processing credits for it.

They also did not give me credit for two days ago when I submitted a ticket for NT31 down. The support tech responded that it was due to a customer account abusing resources. I seems that they are now calling abusive customers something they can not control and do not give credit for downtime relating to them either.

When I called last night, they said they were just replacing a switch and it would be about an hour. They mentioned nothing about a DDos attack and the sites had been down for more than an hour at the time I called.

How long was your site down on NT31?

So are you saying the air conditioning / switch problem last month was not considered a network issue or are you saying you haven't had a DoS attack in a year? Certainly there have been a number of, let's say, "outages" over the last few months.

So does this make two switches lost in as many months?
