name server problems

I have added two new domains recently and upon creation in Hsphere it is assigning the nameservers as ns2.binico.com -> 216.157.129.251
ns3.hsphere.cc -> 216.157.131.129.

The domain registrar will not accept this. Did I miss an announcement?

Please advise.

Thanks!

The announcements for the nameservers don't seem to be in the support system any more, search the forums here for ns2.hsphere.cc and ns3.hsphere.cc and you'll find many posts regarding them. You'll need to register them with your registrar before they can be assigned to domains.

Here is the content of the ns3 email

ns3.hsphere.cc will be turned on for signups on October 23rd, 2003. Since this is a nameserver, you will need to register the nameserver with your registrar. The IP address for ns3.hsphere.cc is 216.157.131.129. If you do not register the nameserver with your Registrar, then the DNS for your new domains will not work properly.
To add the server alias:
1. Login into the admin control panel.
2. Click E.MANAGER 3. Click DNS Manager
4. Click edit button to the right of DNS zone
5. Click edit button to the right of your instant alias address
6. If there are logical servers that need to be added, scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Add records to all listed logical servers"
7. Click Server Aliases under E.MANAGER
8. If there are server aliases that need to be added, scroll to the bottom of the page click Submit.
9. Allow 4-12 hours for changes to take place.
10. We are adding servers on a regular basis. Doing this once or twice a week will help keep everything up to date.

I've also attached a txt file that shows you what to check for after you have added the ns3.yourservicedomain.com to make sure things are set up correctly. I used ti in another post.

Ok for the total newbie here... when you say (Since this is a nameserver, you will need to register the nameserver with your registrar. The IP address for ns3.hsphere.cc is 216.157.131.129) does that mean something different then registering it under your control panel. I am asking because I did steps 1 - 10 and when I try and set this for a new account on go-daddy it spits out the following error:

The modifications you requested for the domain PENTARINFOSYSTEMS.COM have FAILED.

Error: pendmod: (550) Parent domain not registered;

yes, it does. As a reseller creating your aliases in the cp is only the first step.

Who is the regisrar for your service domain? GoDaddy, register.com, buydomain.com, network solutions???

Whoever it is, go their and login to your account.
Then find the area where you either register nameservers, manage hosts, or host servers. It is the place that lets you say that

ns.myservicedomain.com 65.57.225.150
ns1.myservicedomain.com 65.57.225.249
ns2.myservicedomain.com 216.157.129.251
ns3.myservicedomain.com 216.157.131.129

The above assumes you named your nameservers this way when you created the aliases.

remeber this is different from listing the nameservers for a particular domain. Above we are talking about letting your registrar know the ip your nameserver points to so it knows where to send a request when your client has listed your nameserver for their domain like you tell them to do in theirelcome letter.

I've attached another post I did for someone recently on checking their nameserver setup. Attached are directions for registering nameservers at GoDaddy and Network Solutions that I found somewhere

VERY VERY good point there shadowfyre.. Thanks for pointing this out, I will bring this up at the metting tomorrow.. Us tech guys sometimes think everyone should know this stuff, but I know this is not true for new guys..

I will make sure these emails get redone to maybe help a little more in the gray areas so they help the newbie's out a little more..

What gadgetgal99 told you is right you need to register the name server then you can add it to your domains.

Almost forgot, thanks gadgetgal99..
