console irc client
Im looking for a console based irc client for a gentoo box, does anyone have any suggestions? Ive heard BitchX is good.

BitchX is great although if you install via emerge you will get the gtk one that will only run with your windowing program of choice, so download the source and compile it and you'll be all set and if you are looking for a good console AIM client you can't beat PORK http://dev.ojnk.net/

I used to use BitchX until about, umm, 1999. I thought it was hopelessly bloated even then and, after four more years of adding features and integrating things that should have remained add-on scripts into the code, I don't even want to imagine what it's like. Use BitchX if you want a client with more controls and blinkenlights than a 747's cockpit.
![]() If you want to get the job done, EPIC will do nicely. If something basic will do just as well, ircII (my client of choice) is the old-skool way to go. They're all extendable if you want to take the time to configure them or script your own add-ons. Of course, if you want to be hardcore like me, you'll have to IRC over a raw telnet connection. ![]() |
