Is Vortech feasible for someone like me or do I know too little?
Currently I have a reseller account. *They* set up my accounts, set up my Secure Servers, do everything except manage email. I have all the domains on UNIX and have ftp access/I can chmod my files, etc...
Most of what I have been reading is over my head. Is Vortech feasible for someone like me or is it imperitive I know much more than I know? I am no programmer (obviously) and I don't know much about hosting. I am just a Web Site Designer who picks up a couple of extra bucks by reselling hosting. With your advice, I will do some more digging here or look elsewhere for something more suited to me needs. Appreciate it! L. |

Playing with it is the best way to learn. I learned everything I know about computers/internet/networks/routers just by using it and reading. DNS is still a booger for me though, got to work on some more reading for that.
The hard part is done, HSphere is about as user friendly as any reseller control panel gets after the initail setup, which is a bit hard. If you decide you can't figure it out after this, maybe you need to find a solution that will allow you to refer them and get a one time credit/check for it. Vortech might even do that, but I am not sure, I have NOT read anything like that on their sites. |

This system is easy for anyone who takes the time to read up on it a bit. Your not going to get it all overnight, but I will say that for myself going through all of the tutorials and walkthroughs helped me immensely.
Check out some of these: http://www.matrixreseller.com/tutorials/index.html ..and this: http://www.matrixreseller.com/Step-By-Step.htm

Nothing is impossible:
Remember “He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever”. (Chinese proverb) There’s a learning curve with everything that we do, and after you’ve mastered h-Sphere you’ll simple move onto another one…. And so the circle continues. No reseller starts off knowing everything or having a solution every problems, the business is complex, frustrating and time consuming. My advice would be write a business plan…… most seem to think that they don’t need it – it’s just for other people, but in reality the ones who look at the competition, and set themselves some ‘achievable goals are the ones who succeed. Once you’ve got a business plan, set yourself some achievable objectives – not just $$ orientated but look at your capabilities and personal ‘knowledge’ requirements. Then work on them one by one until you’ve ticked each of them off your list. Don’t be frustrated when the sales don’t come flooding in, the first 50 clients are definitely the hardest – however keeping them is a totally different story. The net is a wash with web hosts, to be one step ahead of them you’ve got to offer something that the others don’t (a bit like Vortech ) look for a gap and try to fill it……..

I prefer targetting a specific group, local businesses, organizations, charities. But of course, I am not making much money either, so maybe that is not the greatest plan, but I'm not in this to make much money, mainly to learn more, and offer good pricing to local groups.

Each to their own.... in your area local businesses, organizations, and charities may be the niche that needs plugging? What works for one isn't always the solution for another. I know of one local builder who get 40% of his business via the net - yet explaining to other businesses that it's worth a go is like trying selling meat pies to vegitarians ![]()

designing here again
Thanks everybody for your advice...more more! I do like to learn, I guess I am not sure I have enopugh time to devote to this and that it might be too much of a challenge. I have taken your advice here and have been looking at the tutorials. It seems easy enough so far...but again, I haven't gotten too far yet!
landiserve: I am not looking for a huge amount either. How many sites do you have? I only have about a dozen now. L. Last edited by designing : 12-23-2002 at 02:16 PM. |

You have more than me. I am not even "try" to sell mine. If someone asks, or we get to talking, I make a plan and host them. I have not even taken the time yet to make my main website, as I do not want to draw the random internet passer-by.

I wish I didn't have to move right now...but I have had some email problems, *they* are very slow to respond or they do not respond at all to problems/concerns, they changed their name, and have told me I have to go and change all the DNS anyway. They charge me $40 a month plus $7.5 per domain for 50 M disk space, 10 G data transfer, 25 popboxes, unlimited emails.
This looks like something I won't be able to jump into, because of the learning curve. I shall have to start with one and see how it goes first. Thanks for the advice! L. |

Hey, I could host all your domains and handle that for less, doing all the backend leg-work. :P

If I can do it, anyone can. It's actually not that hard and most of my questions to support I could have worked out if I had given it some thought. I'm not even tech savvy. It does seem intimidating at first though but once you get over your fear and just do it, it's not that bad.
As far as I'm concerned, Vortech offers one of the best reseller packages I've seen anywhere. |

Stelo, I agree, that is why I use them, and hey, if you try it and just CAN NOT figure it out in 7 days, they will refund you.
I will also add, something that I forgot. When I first signed up, they gave me a call a few minutes after just to make sure the charge was valid, I liked that, a company that cares about its customers, even before they have "taken your money". |
