Dspam

I have noticed when i turn Spam Assassin on, on my Mailbox, it doesnt really filter out much spam anymore. Has anyone thought of changing over to DSPAM?

http://www.nuclearelephant.com/projects/dspam/

It looks like a very capable open-source spam filter.

I have the filter set at 5. It filters about 1/2 of the viagra, body part enlargement, mortgage stuff.

I assume the stuff that gets through is just more sophisticated and has designed their stuff to get around the s.a. rules.

I've set a customers to 4 - he was getting about 50+ junk messages per day and now it's way down. I'd say that's a success. The only thing I wish that SA could do was allow for Subject Line or Body filtering. Since spammers typically forge their email address, that filter is generally useless, but the subject line can stay the same for a long time. It's probably too tough on the server resources, though.

I have one account that has SA on, and at least 50 spams get through a day. Is there anywhere i could forward these messages at least? Also i have another account that gets quite alot of actual emails marked as spam. They are mostly from automailers such as Gamespy.

DSPAM supports auto-whitelisting via forwarding emails to an account.

No there was never SSL on SA. It was done server side. I use a tunnel to get my mail, so it was not an issue. Now that it is a web interface w/ no SSL I don't use it. For webmail for instance I have 1 email acct I use as a throw away and forward mail there if I need it. I do not use things w/ passes that are unsecure...nor do I recommend them. That's just me. I have seen to many breaches over the yrs.

Well unless I am missing something. When vortech filtered, all I did is get my mail via an encrypted tunnel. I cannot do this for web...altho there are some products that do this in diff ways which I have looked into, but they have issues as well. So when you login to SA now you are sending username and pass in the clear...which is a piece of cake to get. Same for webmail(that's why I mentioned it). To bad we don't have vpn access . The customization is great, but I take security over that. Again...that is me.

What would be a nice feature is to be able to delete instantly any email with a forged sender. SA will still give a low score to spam that I receive even with forged information. If its forged in any manor, I don't even want it. But if I set the threshold lower I risk losing other important email so I am kind of stuck.

90% of the spam I receive has forged information and alot of it has a score of 1, 2, 2.5. Its crazy. If its forged, it should be gone!

Any thoughts?
