Actually even on servers where you've said parent paths is enabled by default recently I've still had to put in a TT to get it done, something somewhere isn't working right I think.

I guess I count, however, I am usually the one needing the help! Maybe I will just make my questions a little more complex and long winded for content!

Sounds like a great idea..... and for the one who posted about Landiserve.. you now, I never thought of that! Being a reseller and a support person...

Perhaps, even if one is a support person for Vortech, they should not be able to say that they are a reseller... not sure, but sometimes the best support people are the people who use the product....

What was the time frame? This should be # 1

Actually Landiserve no longer has anything to do with Vortech, hence his absence from the forums of late.

hmm personaly, i would rather see the rack go to use to benifit everyone, like a new mail server. (not that there have been many problems with the server lately, but you know what i mean) I also agree with some of the earlier posts about people who post here frequently are more likely to get it. then again i supose that the idea of the contest

I doubt a raq4i would cope with our mail volumes, iirc a standard 4i is an AMD450 512Mb RAM or there abouts ??

Personally I'd say the best use for that box would be a dedicated web server where the load on it can be managed, its getting a bit long in the teeth to be added to the cluster as a useful box IMO. What Brads planning to do with it is probably a good use, potentially Brad gets some ongoing revenue from it if the winner chooses to co-locate it rather than say just putting it on ebay and getting a one-off sum for it.

I guess if you look at it in a very round about way, vortech getting a little more ongoing revenue does benefit us all.

I have a feeling that as Matrix upgrades old racks they are going with the same hardware - using the old hardware would go against that idea.

It probably wouldn't be able to put back into service, especially in a growing company like Matrix. Planned obsolescence is a tricky little bugger

We use to do cobalts and sun's as ded. boxes and just kind of got out of that market since we got in to resellers more and kind of have our minds on Resellers and Colo not much else at this point.. So older systems like cobalts are coming off the self.. We have a few older systems around here.. Some PIII's some dual PIII's some cobalts.. We just don't need for our self really.. Sure we could sell them on ebay, but why not let the great customers here have a few first..

Plus we can't really use a cobalt with H-Sphere..

The RaQ was used as a dedicated box and since we no longer offer those, we decided to raffle it off (so to speak). Otherwise, it would have wound up on Ebay like the rest that we had. (generally, old and out-dated equipment is pulled and sold on Ebay by me)

That would be a nightmare...having a raq for a mail server.
