7/18/2003 !IMPORTANT! Vortech Inc. Making The Move

On Monday, July 21st we will begin moving our entire network to a new facility. This facility is located in the same Downtown Orlando building we are located now down one floor. Our primary reasons for moving are the larger work area, more spacious and secure cabinets and a much more temperature controlled environment, all of which equal more uptime, faster hardware fixes and server swaps when problems arise. The move will take approximately two weeks to complete. Our target completion date is Monday, August 4th.

We have painstakingly planned out every aspect of this move down to the smallest detail to ensure the very least amount of downtime while keeping our core services operational during the move. In the past two weeks we have hired two new Technicians and purchased additional routers and switches to aid in making this move as fast and efficient as possible.
We anticipate only a slight drop in available phone support (only during move hours) with no delays on ticket response times.

Below is a rough outline of what we have planned in the coming week:

I - Monday July 21st, 10 PM
a. Network setup and activation downstairs.
*DOWNTIME- 10 minutes when router reboots.

II - Start Moving Windows Servers
Tuesday July 22nd, 10 AM to 6 PM daily until (?)
a. Moving H-Sphere Servers NT4-NT23.hsphere.cc
*DOWNTIME- Approximately 10-15 minutes per server.

III - Start Moving Unix Servers 10 AM to 6 PM
a. Moving H-Sphere Servers unix-unix10.hsphere.cc
*DOWNTIME- Approximately 10-15 minutes per server.

IV - Start Moving CP Server 10 AM to 6 PM
a. Moving cp.hsphere.cc
*DOWNTIME- Approximately 10-15 minutes.

V - Start Moving Microsoft SQL Servers 10 AM to 6 PM
a. Moving Servers mssql-mssql2.hsphere.cc
*DOWNTIME- Approximately 10-15 minutes per server.

VI - Start Moving MySql Servers 10 AM to 6 PM
a. Moving all mysql*.hsphere.cc servers
*DOWNTIME- Approximately 10-15 minutes per server.

VII - Start Moving PGSQL Servers 10 AM to 6 PM
a. Moving all pgsql*.hsphere.cc servers
*DOWNTIME- Approximately 10-15 minutes per server.

VIII - Start Moving Mail Servers 10 AM to 6 PM
a. Moving all mail*.hsphere.cc servers
*DOWNTIME- Approximately 10-15 minutes per server.

IX - Start Moving SiteStudio and all remaining H-Sphere Servers 10 AM to 6 PM
*DOWNTIME- Approximately 10-15 minutes per server.

X - Start Moving all Colocated, Virtual and Dedicated Vortech Servers 10 AM to 6 PM
a. Moving all *.vortechhosting.com servers
*DOWNTIME- Approximately 10-15 minutes per server.


Looking past Tuesday July 22nd it will be impossible to list exact dates/times for server moves now so we will be posting EACH and EVERY server move live as it happens in our forum here.

This should give everyone a good feel for the speed of the move as well as what server(s) may be going down in the coming hours on any given day.

Please refrain from starting new threads on this topic until the move begins. We have a lot of work ahead of us and will post all updates here.

Were getting ready to move the router now. Should not be down more than 10-15 minutes.

One of the core switchs is having an issue there is a tech at the DC working on it right now. Should only slow things down at this point. We will be rebooting it in about 5 to 10 min then every thing should be backup and working fine.

Every thing seems to be working great now. We will start on the NT servers around 12 to 1pm

We've just started the move on the first NT servers.

Right now were moving NT4-NT6.hsphere.cc and hooking them back up now.

Also.. Sitestudio and Cpanel2 along with dns2.nocspeed.com will be down for a short period.

07/22/2003: We have completed moving all the servers for today. We will begin again at 9AM tomorrow.
