A few questions before I get the H-Spehere Cypher plan.
1. Can you transfer my domain from another host? 2. How long will it take to transfer the domains from another host? 3. Do I get phpBB forum or any other application? 4. If I don’t get phpBB forum, will I be able to upload and run it? 5. Do I get SSL certificate? 6. Do I get flash support? 7. Do I get real time audio/video support? 8. Is it really a 24/7 support or is it just a way to get customers? 9. How many email accounts do I get? 10. Do I get anonymous FTP? 11. Do I get admin rights on my MSSQL databases? 12. Do you use ASP Enterprise manager? 13. Can I setup multiple accounts to login to H-sphere? 14. Does H-sphere allow multiple login sessions? 15. Do I get an online File manager if I get Windows reseller plan? Thanks Insomniac :wink2: |

Hey there Insomniac. Hopefully this answers most of your questions about Vortech. And no, I have no relation to Vortech other than as a happy customer.
![]() 1. Yep. 2. Depends on DNS propogation, but it usually takes 24 hours or less. Vortech does not have any control over this. It's just how the Internet works. 3 & 4. There is a version of phpBB available as an option in H-Sphere, but IIRC, it's not kept up to date that well by PSoft. Assuming you know how, you shouldn't have any problem running your own copy of phpBB though. And if you do have a problem, just submit a support ticket. These folks are amazing! ![]() 5. SSL support is available in H-Sphere, but an SSL certificate is not included in signing up. 6. As long as you know how to make and upload Flash files, sure. ![]() 7. I'll leave this for someone else. I believe you'd need a colo'd server though. 8. Yep, again IIRC they generally have 3 support folks online during regular business hours (North America Eastern Time), and at least 1 at any other time of the day, even 3 AM. 9. Number of email accounts is limited only by storage limits on your plan. 10. Yep. 11. I think you have to put in a support ticket to request this on a db-by-db basis, but if you ask nicely, I believe so. ![]() 12. Yep. 13. Yes, though the number of accounts is limited by your plan. This also leads to the answer to your next message, which is that each account (or "user") over your limit carries a one-time setup charge of $4. Unfortunately this is what PSoft charges Vortech, so Vortech has to pass this one along to us. 14. Yep. 15. Yep, H-Sphere has one included called WebShell. There's no such thing as a Windows-only reseller plan though. H-Sphere actually hosts both Windows and Unix accounts all from the same control panel. Looking forward to seeing you in the forums in the future! See ya... Last edited by Curt : 10-09-2004 at 12:51 PM. |

I'm just a customer too. To add a couple of things to what Curt said...
1 - they can, but as a reseller, you would normally be doing that yourself through whoever you use as a registrar. 2. Depends upon the tld. Usually 12-24 hours in north america, up to 72+ for world wide - depending upon tld. Last month versign changed the root nameserver update cycle from evry 12 hours to every few minutes for .com and .net domains, but I haven't done any new domains since then to check propagation time. 6& 7 - Not sure what you mean by flash or real time A/V. You can host and deliver playable files here, but they don't offer specialty streaming servers like the ra server. 11. In the past you could request dbo access for a particular sql login. This is changing anf it will be restricted in the future. Hasn't been a major issue to change sql scripts to use the sql login instead of dbo. Just a note about hsphere and reseller plans... Cypher plan gives you 15 hsphere accounts but some of thse get eaten by overhead accounts...
When a person signs up for a plan, they get an hsphere account. Under that account, they get one ftp login for windows (sub-ftp accounts only available under unix) and whatever services and service limits you allow them to have up to the limits of your cypher plan. In my case, I don't sell hosting online, but offer it for people whose sites I build. Some of those people get an hsphere control panel, but usually only if they have some overwhelming need for ftp that I can't satisfy through asp on windows or php on unix. The majority of sites I build go under one of my personal plans. I built my personal plans to allow unlimited domains. I just add their domain to one of my plans and I'm the only one with access to the control panel and ftp. So. In effect, once you set yourself up with 3 plans as overhead, you have 12 control panels left as freebies. Once you go over 15 control panels, there's a 1 time $4 charge for each additional control panel. Some resellers eat it, some pass it along. Psoft doesn't do subtraction math with the control panel charges. Once you go over 15, every one is $4. If you had 16 control panels in use and get rid of 2 accounts and now have only 14 control panels in use, you'll still get charged for the next control panel because your historical count was over 15.
