I've had RBL lists in use on my server for about 6 months in "log only" mode, I've actually found them close to useless for stopping most of the spam I seem to receive (through non vortech accounts), I was still receiving several hundred per day whilst using mail-abuse.org and ordb.org. I've quite honestly so far really had the best luck with a combination of Spam Assasin and Spam Inspector. SpamNet was fantastic too and I believe they have a "server" version called Authority available now (though I think its only sendmail compatible http://www.cloudmark.com/products/au.../requirements/ )

This is just a personal experience, like anything YMMV.

Vixen, YOU are the one missing the point

1 - Our relationships with our customers are important to us (I had hoped you felt the same way about your customers)

2 - These relationships are probably being strained and compromised right now

3 - Most suppliers would rather provide their customers with something that worked but maybe neaded tweaking than something lined with gold that did nothing

4 - Pretentious and smart-assed responses to legitimate concerns are not what we expect

5 - At the very least try to give us an etimate of what is wrong and when it will be addressed

I've always been a huge fan of Matrix and the exceptional support offered but right now my customers are pissed - and I'm getting that way fast.

Actually I have said many times that I see the issue in Netscape Communicator, and I believe that others have posted other mail clients as well that suffer the same problem. It's a "server busy" issue. Maybe you're just lucky, or don't have the problem because of your proximity to the physical servers. I'm on the west coast, so maybe I see it more because of the distance my little connection has to travel.

I will say, though, that aside from yesterdays downtime, it seems to be happening less frequently, for me anyhow.

Why not practice what you preach?? You are the one cursing, not I.

Is no one allowed to have an opinion other than you?? All I said was you missed my point.

I have never seen Netscape Communicator so I will have to take your word on it. All I know is everyone around me uses Outlook and has the issue. Whereas I only get to read about it here or hear about it from people in the office. Guess I am lucky.

Hey Brangwyn:

Is spam assasin for mail servers, or for local mail clients? Maybe you could shed some light if you've had any luck with spam software that can help local clients.

I've got several clients who have been asking about software, but I've read nothing but poor reviews citing that this stuff is a real drag on resources, etc. How does spam inspector stack up?

Any info is much appreciated

Man, one of those penis emails slipped through again. Someone needs to let these fools know they are emailing the totally wrong person when they send it to me. LoL

And Dr. Peters needs to stop trying to get me to open a bank account for him. LoL

i use eudora at work to check pop3 email on domains hosted by vortech and i was experiencing mail server time-out problems similar to what those using outlook experienced. definitely not a mail client prob. sorry to hear about the spam probs -- glad it's (hopefully) getting better.

Two things to add:

1. Just to back jmbeach, the password problem most definitely happens in Netscape and Mozilla

2. I get a LOT of spam just like everybody else. But in all honesty, I cannot recall getting a SINGLE instance of the Enlarge your Penis spam or any of its variants. I just did a keyword search through over 5,000 messages in my junk mail folder and did not get a single hit on "enlarge" or "penis". Since this seems to be most popular and talked-about spam of all-time, I am feeling slightly left out. What if I, too, would like a larger penis?

Come to think of it, neither do I. These spammers must be smarter than we thought.

Ok, here is what we have going on right NOW to help stop all the mail issues.. Using only one block list the one from my post before. It seems to be working ok.. Its not going to stop every thing but it should help.

This is going to help the most with your password issues:
