Urchin 4 and VPS almost here..
Psoft has a beta version out now with Urchin4 and VPS support. I think I will wait a few weeks before installing it but so far it seems to be ok..

Yep, but one thing to remember is its just VPS, that means no user side CP for it. You can install things like webmain or some other control panels.. We are looking at a free one that may work with in the VPS that we can isntall along with the VPS.You would have some control over your VPS from the H-Sphere CP but not for things like setting up clients and stuff.. Just wanted to make sure thats clear.. ![]() I have not had a lot of time to play around with the VPS stuff yet so I am not sure what all it can do till we get it installed and tested.

Any VPS for Windows or is this a UNIX only deal? EDIT: Just hit their page and it looks like UNIX only. Oh well, still an awesome solution.
Also - I assume Urchin 4 will track stats for both platforms? And do you know how much it will cost our clients to use Urchin??? This will be awesome.

Admin have you looked at the server versions of VMware, they are very pricey, but work good, I cant see spending that much money, that much buys 2 good full servers that are not limited. But the VMWare for servers is pretty good.

How about cost for Urchin? Will it be a one-time fee per client? Or a monthly fee per client? How much will it be? Thanks...

monthly fee per client, looking at around $8 to$10 per month for resellers and $15 $25 for end users.

ouch. why so much? I thought the licence was only like $700 for 100 clients (one-time). not to complain, but I doubt many of my customers will opt for this.

$700 per 100 Clients Plus servers and bandwidth time to move it over the network. If your logs are 20MB's a day thats 600MB to move around the network a month..
I think $8 to $10 is very far for a good stats program..

indeed, but a hundred less e-mails a week sent to support@vortechhosting.com saying "Webalizer's stopped again"!!!
is urchin so much more load-bearing than webalizer anyway? while you need to use a seperate server for urchin (right?) the web servers will no longer need to compile webalizer for those admins that upgrade to urchin. this is all not to say that I'm not totally appreciative of the upgrade. I know at least one frusterated webalizer client who will undoubtably clammor to pay an extra $20 a month for it! I guess I was just hoping for either a setup fee only (and maybe crossing my fingers hoping it would be free for your valued customers). ![]() |

I have not had a lot of time to run numbers let me see how it goes if we get a good demand for it I may make a price drop on it as well..

Quote:
I'm confused about the difference. Does this mean I can sell it to my clients for $8-10/month with no mark-up? Or that I can use it MYSELF for that amount but my clients would have to pay $15-25? I agree that this is pretty steep, especially since I am used to hosting companies that provide LiveStats or something similar for NOTHING - it is built right into the standard hosting fee. Not that I am ungrateful to have an option, just was hoping it would be cheaper.
