I know what you mean. I just set up my first linux server(debian). It actually works and I have a site on it. I did it because I didn't know how to get a 600mb mysql database to the vortech servers without the hassle of my life. I really don't think I have enough productive years left in my life to become a linux guru and can't afford to do what I want to with my own windows server. Is there any other way to get a database loaded on a VT server other than import/export using a mysql client? I'd be glad to pay for the service if there is. Otherwise, I'll just have to do the best I can with my meager, unsecure linux box.
Linux ain't easy folks, it's a career!
