Mailman

Hello,

One customer of mine doesn't like EZML for n reasons. He suggested we install Mailman <http://list.org/>, one of the most popular mailing projects, but it requires root access to configure the system, wich is not allowed on the current H-Sphere platform.

Are you using EZML? Are you happy with it? Have you ever considered a better solution?

Couldn't you set this up with Shell Access?

I really don't know. I need permissions to create a user and a group on the system.

Do you think it's possible? :]

For Mailman, I think root access is only needed for the creation of users and groups as you mention. I know there are many people that use Mailman in shared hosting environments (no root access). So it's probably a matter of assigning the right permissions to the proper files.

Hi, keidsjedo! Do you think Vortech could do that for me? :]

Anyone from Vortech could, please, let me know if this is possible.

Thank you.

You'd need to submit a trouble ticket.

Just wanted to mention that this falls under the realm of web design/coding, thus a ticket won't result in us setting up this software for you.

However, if you are on HSphere, I would suggest you take a look at EZMLM as its fairly feature rich. It uses ezmlm-idx, which has some more options than stock ezmlm.

Also, be aware that the mail servers are not the same as web servers, so running mailman on the web servers probably wont do anything for you, since I do not believe it POP checks mailboxes (I could be wrong), and if you run it as a daemon, you're only asking for it to be shutoff

I use it on a few sites, does have its bugs, one was a problem was a moderated list, that did not work..messages got posted even though it was checked.

but in the long run, it worked for 2 of my clients mail lists, and it is real fast.

I used Mailman and it's pretty good. However EZMLM also seems to work very well and is easily configured and maintained through H-Sphere and by using an email client.

Only thing I dislike about EZMLM is that it by default writes the reply-to as the user that send the message. This results in people having to hit "reply-to-all" and manually remove the extra "to" entry. It all get's very confusing for people who rather just get on posting messages :-)

Found a suitable how-to < http://www.tech-geeks.org/geeklog/ar...20406140917734 > and submitted a ticket to MR/Vortech in the hope that someone will spare 2min to do it. SSH/shell access has been disabled system-wide since the last security breach AFAIK.

Peace,
Axel.
