just to report.... todays tests were originally 1/2 hour lag 12 hours ago, but instant now - both mail and mail1 . received 100%.
yesterdays 15, into the void . spooky. all of them. even spookier.
i've only tested matrix pop today not smtp as that was fine yesterday.
i have some wierd qmail-send notices, all mail1, seems a lot of bouncing to wrong accounts going on as they are nothing to do with me. (iratell.com - list owner?, nataly.org x2, cs.com maybe?)
- if techs require just ask.
will test in 12 hours.
roger.
over.
wilco.
zzzzzz.

12 hours later, all seems to work fine for me, but the original 15 never appeared so its not just delay, it is losing them.
happy holidays matrix.
I certainly would appreciate this issue addressed, but after you've
had a good rest (if thats possible) is fine by me.
murray.

Well we found a work around for it right now and are looking at other options. Right now mail will try and send for 6 hours if it does not make it to the other mail server by then it will try one more time then give up. We had it set to 5 days but that is just backing it up way to much..

24-48 hours is about the norm retry period from my experience.

My Last place I was at, did it for 8 hours, then gave up, so six is fine, I never knew anyone else that tried for longer then 12 hours.
I think that if it was set to 5 days thats just too much time.
the user can resend it again if he thinks its a valid address.
so six is more then fair IMO.

I actually meant 24-48 hours is the normal "give-up" period for mailservers, not the retry period, most mailservers work on a staggered retry period, first at 30 minutes, then 1 hour, then 3 hours, then 6, then 12, then 24 then give up etc. The 6 days you had previsouly was way overkill as you indicated.
