Trying to install AwStats on Win accounts...

Hi all,

Before I try bothering the Support folks with a question that isn't really related to my hosting, I thought I'd ask if anyone here has managed to successfully insall AwStats to a Windows account.

I've gotten everything working except, apparently, the configuration for the log-format. I'm able to run reports through the browser without error, but there is no data returned other than zeros in every field. AwStats says this comes down to basically a problem with the selected log-file format...

I've reviewed the default log-file format produced on our IIS/Win machines/accounts, and think I need to enter a custom LogFormat, since our log files contain a few more fields than the pre-defined IIS LogFormat recommended by AwStats (for people who have direct access to the servers' log-file configuration, I suppose)...

Here's the configuration I have so far... I've confirmed that the path and dynamic filename format ARE working correctly, but am not sure about the custom format, or other key settings....

------------------------------------------------------

LogFile="C:/hshome/<account-name>/logs/<site-name>/ex%YY-0%MM-0%DD-0%HH-1.log"

LogFormat="%time2 %host %logname %other %other %other %other %method %url %query %code %other %bytesd %other %other %other %ua %other %referer"

LogSeparator=" "

------------------------------------------------------

Any ideas on why this isn't working for me? I'm just trying to install a better stats program.

WebAlizer is too basic, and actually does not accurately count site visitors (atleast not for dynamic sites I've hosted). On one of my customer's sites which I know gets about 9 to 10K visitors and about 25K hits per day - WebAlizer was actually reporting only about 800 visitors (but, more than 5K referring sites) which obviously shows something is not working right... but that's another story.

Any help would be appreciated!

- T

search the forum on awstats, there have been several posts on this before. If my memory serves me, they said there was a problem in finguring out the correct name of the files that is generated every hour into your logs/yourdomain.com file. I don't think they ever found a solution, but don't quote me on that.

Anyway do a search.

awstats - a little behind the party

This is frustrating.

Has anyone come up with a way to install awstats or another stat program on their reseller accounts?

I am open to suggestions.

AWstats

I knew about webalizer but not urchin, I have not used urchin.

So you recommend that anyone wanting to have awstats, be patient and wait for the upgrade?

Or is there an alternate solution?

If webalizer doesn't cut it for you then you have 3 options really.

1) wait for awstats
2) use urchin
3) download the log files and use a local analyser such as www.smarterstats.com (which will automatically ftp down the log files for you actually)
