Although downtime is always undesirable, replacing the hardware on this machine is worth the extra set up and copying time since this machine has been marginal for a while.

Does it mean 30 minutes or 5 hours? Just a ballpark would be nice - I won't hold you to it, but at least we would have a rough idea.
Compared to next week, 5 hours would be soon. Compared to noon, 30 minutes would be soon. :-)
Thanks!
soon would be somewhere between 30 minutes and 5 hours, depending on where the data your account accesses happens to reside on the disks being copied. some will be up sooner than others, that is why it is impossible for me to give an ETA. I doubt it will take longer than 6 hours in any instance, unless we have to do any specific setting changes to your domains (on occasion a domain may be in the corrupted region of a disk and some settings/permissions may be altered)

Hey guys,

The file copying is about 60% done. I just want to add that until everything is done copying, you probably will experience weird things like not being able to log in to send/receive mail and whatnot.

So far so good! Keep your fingers crossed!

Mail up can't login

One of my clients have been down all morning. Now they can get to the mail server mail.sitename.net but cannot login. Everyone in the company can't login because it's not accepting the password. Is there something that's being run? Did the passwords get screwed up? I just need to be able to tell them something.

I guess you just answered my question above.

Hey guys,

Looks like I have one more update here! The file copying is complete. The mail queue is still pretty backed up and the server is under load from trying to go through out queue, so I don't expect everything to be 100% normal just yet. This includes the issue with logging in (if it's still there) and messages getting duplicated.

Is there any chance of data loss?

I noticed while looking at one account in @mail - we have email from up until 9:00pm on Tuesday, no emails on Wednesday and 1 email today.

Thanks.

It would seem that since the mail clients such as Outlook aren't getting reponse from the SMTP server letting it know that an e-mail has been sent and causing it to stay in the Outbox indefinitely, that we will NEVER see an end to this "backlog" because the same e-mails are being sent over and over. People don't know this and are just letting it sit there. Then there's the fresh mail that is being "sent" and it's all just backing up.
We have now been without mail functioning for the entire business day and I'm getting really tired of getting cussed out over this and still not seeing any change other than it will actually log into the server - does no good though

Can we get an update? I want to make sure I know when Vortech thinks the issue is fixed and/or the mail server has gotten caught up so I know if I need to submit a new ticket or not.

You guys do a great job, but one thing that would be GREAT is if you would give an hourly update when we have a major issue like this. I know typically you don't want to spend time posting updates because you are working on the issue, but in this case I assume you are just waiting.

I would love to see a status update with what is going on, server load level vs. what it should be, estimate times, etc. by the hour or half hour, at least we would all know EXACTLY what is going on. Just my 2 cents!

Thanks.

Another update for you guys! clamd was eating up a lot of resources because of the sheer amount of messages that were scanned as they came in. That had caused a lot of problems with people being able to access the server or having duplicate messages, so we stopped it for now until the load goes down. The night crew should know to keep this forum updated if anything else comes up, but if anything comes up, I hope it's nothing but good news!
