Core Switch and CP Database Maintenance

On Friday, 2/17/06 we will be taking the Core Switch and CP Database down for maintenance. The core switch will be getting an OS upgrade. The expected downtime is less than 30 minutes.

The CP database will be taken down while we perform a full vacuum and reorder the database contents. This will improve performance and stability both on the database and the CP. The expected downtime is 6 hours.

Both the core switch and CP database maintenance will start at 11PM EST (04:00 GMT 2/18).

with the core switch down - does that mean the entire network will be down for upto 30 mins or is their a backup switch that kicks in?

Yes, just when the switch is rebooting the network will be down. It depends on how long the switch takes to reboot.

I just want to make sure also if I understand it correctly before i release announcement to my own clients.

The total network downtime will only be about 30 minutes when the Core Switch is rebooting, and the 6 hour downtime mentioned above is only for the CP, not affecting the sites. Am I correct?

The network maintenance will be starting in about 5 minutes. The CP database maintenance will be starting immediately after.

The network maintenance was only partialy finished this evening. The network is back up and stable, but we will need to schedule another short maint. window sometime in the future.

The CP database maintenance is now complete. The database has been reordered and about 4GB of empty space has been removed.

The CP is up and operational now.
