Ns1-ns2 9/26/05

NS1 and 2 have decided to die. I am looking into the reason they are down at the moment. This shouldnts effect anyone as they are generaly not paired. Everyone should be using ns and ns3 at the moment though.

More info to come.

Been monitoring these since they came back up.. No apparent issue.

We will keep monitoring through the day.

My first year of signups were ns2. and ns3.
Now they are all ns. and ns1.
Why are they supposed to be ns. and ns3.?

Yeah thats basically the reason we're using the old ones.

Any reason behind the servers going down?

When I set up new accounts(just set one up 2 days ago) it assigns ns and ns1. I am getting complaints that sites are down and email not working.

Edit: I think the complaints were from the past 2 days as they seem to working now.

Trying to set up an email account and getting the following error:

Failed to add Mailbox reception@abcd.com
Internal Error, Tech Support Was Notified

Reported to customer service.

Edit: I was able to get the mailboxes set up so apparently there are intermittent problems with ns and ns1. Is anyone else still experiencing problems?

NameServers

I still don't get it. Does the reseller have control over which nameservers to use? If so, how is this done (I don't see anything obvious in the e-settings section of the control panel).

For example, I have one domain that has to be moved to a new account. It is currently using ns3 & ns2, and when I move it I expect it will switch to ns & ns1. I would rather have it remain the same so as to minimize down time, but I do not see to have a way to control this. Is there such a way?

levseltzer,
You do not have control over what hsphere says will be the nameservers for an acct. What you do need control over is that you have all 4 name servers said up as child aliases for your service domain and that the customers nameservers for their domain are also pointing to the 2 nameservers hsphere assigned. VT is saying that they are not paired so 1 should be resolving out of the 2.
