Lost my first customer :-(

They wanted to host an mysql database for use with their online game. the code works with many other hosts except vortech. Apparently the connection kept timing out at random intervals... And no changes in the code seemed to help.

They liked the speed and service but their game just wouldn't work reliabliy enough...

oh well.. just wanted to share that..

Sorry to hear that.... I know it's no consolation, but there's always a bright side... at least you've learned something new by trying to get things working for them.

Were they trying to use persistent connections ? funny feeling thats not been supported here for quite some time .. and if they were accessing the database from external hosted sites or servers thats a no-no anyway

my forum used to have this problem as well now support increase time it up seem work ok , ( my forum just load with few people everyday and post about 30 post /day but keep problem with mysql ) if i'm not wrong mysql should execute faster than MSSQL but why mysql keep time out ?

If it was timing out that regularly it was probably doing something it shouldn't be. Everything runs the way it does for a good reason, so if it was coded badly or uses persistent connections that can cause slowdowns and other issues in a shared environment your better off moving it anyway. Still, I'm sorry about you losing your customer.

Did you think of offering something outside shared hosting? I gotta say for something like that a dedicated seems much more viable or minimum being vps.

I wanted to offer vps, but according to the vortech support the vps plans are not reseller type plans and don't come with a control panel. And i have no clue how to use unix to install anything. But yes a dedicated mysql will everything turned on would have been a good solution.

Its shame really becuse he had switched from 1and 1 due to slow servers and using the same code he couldn't get a stable connection here. whereas at first it wouldn't run at all.

Anyway. Got a new signup this morning so all is well.

Signup for affiliate and refer them directly to Vortech to handle them under VPS plan, but you would only get a one time fee. In any case, the technicals are indeed beyond what you can handle.

Yeah, affiliate is better than nothing. We can get vps as a reseller can't we?
