2004 - 30 - 10 Router Outage

We seam to be prone to router issues lately.
We lost our core router and it decided not to reboot.
We have replaced it on a temp basis and are working on getting parts replaced to bring it back online.

Updates as they happen.

can we get an idea of how long we've been down for? As far as I can see, it's been several hours. Correct me if that's wrong.

What ever happened to your off-site forum - http://66.194.198.60 ?

Just curious if this is an isolated problem (i.e. just my problem) ... I was monitoring the offsite forum during the outage but now I can't get to it at all even though the offsite ipMonitor seems to be fine.

What's up with that?
(clearly if responding to my question gets in the way of something more important, like getting things stable, please feel free to just blow me off).

Cheers!

(edit)
Guess I'm not alone then.

Latest outage just goes further for me to reinforce the need for some sort of DNS backup for service domains so that things like support forum URL's, backup MX records etc continue to resolve whilst Vortechs DNS is unavailable, I've got secondarys setup that are external to vortech and working but would really like to be able to have my Vortech Service domain updated somehow so that the NS records for these are present.

When the dust has settled could someone comment on the viability of somehow adding custom NS records for us into Vortech's DNS.

Good call, Brangwyn. I'd be very curious to hear about options for custom records in DNS, too.

So when parts arrive and you guys are in a position to work on getting the main router back up, could you guys do us a favor and at least send out a heads-up, even if it's right beforehand, so at least we have something to tell our customers? Thanks.

That is a great point... I was just looking into what I needed to set up a secondary offsite mail server in the event of temporary glitches, but it'd be rather pointless if my DNS server goes away and noone can see any of my MX records.

So I need to look into hosting secondary DNS externally as well? Darn, the complications of doing things the right way... hmmm...

Can't I just pay Vortech for this rather than someone else? Let them leverage their strengths and parterships and just pay a little extra something for the priv of having externally hosted secondary DNS and secondary mailbagging?

Just thinking out loud here.

Yep I'm at 2+ hours and counting. I'll have a couple of sites come back up and then go right back down. Please just keep us posted on the status of the repair.
