Best SSL Option....

Hello All,
I will be signing up within the next few days but I want to get some things setup and out of the way before doing so. One of them is the purchase of SSL Cert.
1. Do I need to purchase one or does it come with the account, whether it's shared or single.
2. Do I really need a SSL Cert if my customers are not sending me credit card info.
3. Should I use something cheap like FreeSSL.com or is there something better, cheaper (FREE), that is just as good.
4. Your thoughts and/or opinions on what I can use the SSL Cert. for besides a secure form for sending me Credit card info.

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob,

I have been here for over a year and do not use a SSL on my CP... However I do not take credit cards through the control panel either. If you are going to use Pay-Pal or 2CO or anything like that you do not need one. However if your really interested in a control panel SSL you can get one from Ev1servers.net for under $28 dollars (including tax) this is a Geo Trust Cert which is very good for the money (buy direct and pay 150) but you have to wait until you get everything setup to buy a SSL cert.

Mark

FYI,
if you secure you cp and want to use any custom graphics in the cp or the banner you can place at the top of the cp, you will need an additional ssl.
Custom images are not stored with the cp, they will be stored in one of your regular accounts. You need to store these images in a secure directory. Otherwise you get a popup warning on every page display saying some items are not secure do you want to continue

Example
ssl for cp.yourservicedomain.com
secures the cp

for custom images they need to be stored elsewhere.
ssl for secure.yourservicedomain.com
then you can put your custom images in a subdirectory
secure.yourservicedomain.com/images

you can also use secure.yourservicedomain.com for anything else you need secure.

The second ssl can be for whatever you want, I just use secure.yourservicedomain.com for other reasons as well and secure is appropriate as a sub domain name. The main thing is the way hshpere works, a single ssl will not work if you want to use ANY of your own images anywhere in the cp. You will need to store custom images in a secure directory.

FYI! - I purchased a QuickSSL from Ev1servers.net last week, this company seems to be pretty established, but Believe it or not, they denied to send me an invoice or receipt for the purchase (This do not seems totally legal ).+ they change US tax for Canadian Customers!! Uhm...this also sounds a little wird!, But okay..it's cheap.
