Why are directory indexes not working?
I installed an uploader on one of my sites at www.retral.com/uploader/index.php I added index.php to my directory indexes last night and applied the changes, but I am still getting 403 Forbidden when going to www.retral.com/uploader
Any clues? |

did you add the index for the subdirectory? uploader/index.php
it is directory based. I'll also hunt for the thread I had that answered the same issue awhile back

you may also need execute permissions 403 is perm, not file not found

err , if you setup directory indexes for 'index.php', it should work in ALL your directories, unless you have some kind of .htaccess file overriding that...
Yep, just checked, thats your problem... in ~/retral.com/ you have a .htaccess file that contains... DirectoryIndex index.html This overrides httpd.conf ![]() Last edited by Bladesnitz : 12-07-2003 at 02:44 PM. |

I didn't know it was necessary to add an index for the subdirectory, but I went ahead and added it and we'll see if that does it. I checked the permissions, they look right to me. Thanks for the help.

You don't have to add it for a subdirectory... 'index.php" suffices. Its your .htaccess file
