How long should dns setup take?

I set up my newest dns, ns3.yottasoftwaresolutions.com 3 days ago.
I have been trying to add this dns to my registrar, GoDaddy, but I keep getting an error everytime I try to add it.

It doesn't look to be a GoDaddy error because I've tried adding other known dns' just to see if they would be accepted and they worked fine. This ns3 one however just doesn't seem to be working.

How many days does it take for a dns to take effect? Should it be more than 3 days?

Thanks in advance.

I'm assuming you added it to your alias list in HSphere already, but are having issues registering it with GoDaddy as a custom nameserver. I think that's how I read it.

If you're getting an error with GoDaddy, you will probably want to call/email them for support.

Or do you mean you cannot add it as a DNS entry for a domain?

Registering the custom NS can take up to a week but it typically very fast. DNS propagation is typically 1-3 days.

I too register domains and nameservers at godaddy.com and
the last time I tried to register a new nameserver it looked like they
have totally changed the interface to manage domain accounts. I
think I finally got it to work, but I got strange error messages.
I will have to revisit them to make sure my changes "took".

Yeah I have added a number of DNS entries using GoDaddy. It has been my experience that you should first add your DNS alias in your CP. Wait 24 hours then add it to your registrar.

I receive the errors sometimes as well like if I add the DNS alias and then go right over to GoDaddy to add it there. If I wait a little while before heading to GD it gets added with no errors.

So in this scenario it sounds like the DNS alias in our CP needs to propagate on the local network first before the registrar will recognize it. I could be off but this is just how it seems when I am dealing with this issue.
