Spam

Hello,

I see the SPAM policy of $250.00 for the 1st occurrence and $500 each additional. Is the $250 waived as long as the domain is deactivated?

We will be verifying accounts before making them live on the system but what other programs are in place to keep spammers off the mail servers? I don't want to be socked with large charges because of spammers. Can I block outgoing mail until DNS is replicated?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I think this is a general rule for those resellers that don't take action with clients that spam.

You'll find that they are actually generous in the time they give to get an account in order before hitting us with charges like this. Just keep your clients in line and all will be fine.

There is a warning, then the 250 is applied for the first complaint after the warning.

So how do you keep from getting hit with the $250.00 fines?

If you are sent a complaint by us stating your customer has spammed you need to take care of the matter immediately with your customer. Generally, resellers tend to suspend the customer's account in order to show them they are not going to tolerate the issue.

Once the warning has been sent, we wait 24 hours to see if any further complaints are received. If there are additional complaints, you will be fined and we will remove the customer ourselves from the system. At that time, your entire account can be suspended and possibly terminated since you did not handle the spam complaint yourself. You are ultimately responsible for your customers and their actions.

If there are no further complaints, then you will not be fined BUT if you allow the customer to remain and we receive complaints later, regarding the same customer, you will be fined.

Please remember, the first spam fine is $250 and every subsequent one is $500 so it can add up and fast.

yobc: If you do a search of this forum, you'll find the subject covered before - can't remember the exact details but, Vortech have suspended resellers before for SPAM and if I remember correctly one reseller moaned like anything - as it transpired (once both sides of the story came out), Vortech had been more than fair........... having warned and warned and warned the reseller concerned before taking action. Even then, if I remember correctly they didn't impose the $$$ fine.
However, its there if they want to.....

Vortech:
If xyz.com spams, you will let us know and we will close the account ASAP. Is this sufficient to keep the SPAM fines from being charged against us?

I usually give 24 hours if I require your user be removed from our server. We understand the fact that you may not receive our e-mails immediately. In most circumstances, a warning is all that is required on our part. The only exception, is when there is an effect on the mail server. In that case we will suspend your user and let you know why we did it.

Yes, that would be sufficient. The fines are for those who are warned and take no action against their offending customer.

Since we have such stringent spam laws in VA. (For what good they do)I tell people up front(in person) and in contracts. This helps make it a legal matter, as well.
