The idea of giving away a RAQ is a good one and I sincerely wish everyone the best of luck when trying for it, the only flaw is that long standing members who may have contributed to this community over a long period of time, may not for what ever reason be ‘the top poster’ during the time specified – the winner may be a newbee who posts as much as they can during the competition period, claims the prize and then shuts up.

However, I do prefer this idea than offering members ‘part time’ support positions – as has happened previously. I never, ever liked the idea of anyone being a reseller / customer and then being given access to our personal accounts. For example - I really liked Landiserve’s help here, but detested the fact that he had access to my client’s data, my accounts and my personal details……. (nothing personal Landiserve… just the way I felt).

Brad – Why not consider rewarding a couple of long standing clients of Vortech who have (a) stuck with you through thick and thin – showing loyalty, (b) helped others ‘consistently’ on this forum and not for just a short period of time. Perhaps with some reduced rate accounts? Then if they fail to try and help others on the forum, simply remove the discount.

like the idea Brad . but garreg , what you are saying may not be fully correct as the rules already states that the Mods will be there to check who's spaming the fiorum just for the sake of the competition .

Brad, is your hope here to get more of your resellers to contribute to this forum, or is it just a random contest?

I think even without the contest, we'd continue to post, because everyone wins anyhow - getting help with things you may have otherwise not known, or getting to share something new you've learned. At the same time, though, your offer is generous.

I think Brad has a couple reasons for doing this. (1) To get people to post more to the board and (2) we had this spare RaQ4 laying around that was no longer being used and instead of selling it on Ebay we decided to give you guys a crack at it.

Sounds like a fine idea. I am sure Brad has to be careful about "rewarding" people for helping out. It may sound nice, but it opens ethical and legal issues to start giving discounts or incentives to "helpful" people. Happy Posting...

i would llike to offer something contructive and helpful here. Always remember to close recordsets (when connecting to a database)

p.s. I like the idea, Brad, although i have been busy with the kids lately and probably won't be able to post very often.

Here is another tip...
You can request (via trouble tickets) to have parent paths turned back on for your windows hosting accounts. Not sure about the security issues involved for individual sites, but you can ask to have it turned back on.

parentPaths should be enabled by default, as long as the techs remember to edit the config properly (Doh - forgot, I dont count!)
