Domain/ip not updating
I updated my name servers through Dotster about 5 days ago but my domain name is still pointing to my IP address at my old host. When I look up my domain on whois it shows that the name servers have been changed to the new ones.
I know it takes 24-72 hours to propogate but is it unusual to take longer? Did I do something wrong? |

It sounds like you're seeing a cached copy of your website.

No I don't think I am. I know the domain is pointing to the old IP because I pinged the domain. Another thing I noticed is that my traffic has dropped 75% so atleast some people are seeing the new site, just not me.
I am able to access my ftp using the new IP but not the domain. I can not view any of the pages in a browser using the IP and I can't get webalizer to work. I also forgot to mention that I am unable to connect to the mail servers via outlook 2000. Last edited by Risewire : 12-23-2002 at 06:39 AM. |

I just took a look at my stats on my old server and there were only 4 visits to that server yesterday (normaly I get over 4000 a day) and 3 of them were me. Maybe it is cached on my ISPs server.

It does sound like ISP caching to me, the easiest way to check is to use a different ISP or manually set your dns settings in the networking panel on your pc.

I am not sure what you mean by "dns settings in the networking panel"

This is getting a little bizzare. I am only able to login to my FTP account using my IP. I can NOT access my email via outlook but webmail does work. The new name servers have been registered but the domain name will not load the files on my new server. The site is being cached somewhere but not on my local machine.
Any ideas? |
