If you could keep the pressure on them that would be great Brad.

Being a newish server many new accounts are landing on this machine and it's really getting to be a concern having to tell brand new customers who are complaining there site is down every 6 or 7 hours that this is not normal and the servers are usually rock steady.

Brad, should we assume that all the 2003 servers coming online will have this issue, or was it just with NT26? If it's an OS issue, won't it be on all of them until a patch is put in place?

So far it seems the issue is ms jet and IIS 6 it also happens now in IIS5 but not as much. They are telling us we should not allow any one to use MS access and make everyone use MSDE or MSSQL server and remove any thing using mS jet to get to an access database. They said this has been an issue for years and have been telling everyone not to use MS access for web sites. So I asked why do you offer frontpage then to make web pages that can't work with MSSQL that I know of.. They had no answer at that point..

They said they have 13 cases of this same thing now. They are trying for a hot fix but they said there may not be one.. So we have a few options, set a few MSDE boxes and offer MSSQL for free now but based on space. This will not help with front page as I don't think it can even work with MSSQL as far as I know..

To suggest that all Access users switch to a larger db is ridiculous. If it's always been an issue, then why have they continued to include it? I hate planned obsolescence - the jerks think they can remove backwards compatibility just to sell more software - they should be hung by their [you fill in the blank].

Brad, I don't think you should consider removing jet as an option, considering there are probably hundreds of users here alone. Keep us posted on this issue

Yea we are working on it still.. It seems you can't even remove jet with out just killing every thing.. So thats really not an option..

We will find some way to fix.. Now I have to see if we should do the next server as 2k or 2k3.. Non of the 2k servers are having this issue. But I really did not want to go backwards now that we have win2k and CF MX out.. IIS 6 is great till this poped up its little head in the door..

I think according to the MSDE license it can't actually be used for "live production" websites anyway becuase isn't it sold for development use only ?

You might want to start a new thread for questions not relating specifically to this issue.

If you have a look in the pre-sales areas you'll see lots of fine comments about the service here.

There's a great slogan for MS

"The new Windows Server 2003 - so bad, you'll end up reverting back to Server 2000"

Hi Brad, please do not disable access database bcos it's a lot simpler than sql and many scripts are based on access db.

Problem is not only of getting a larger db if Access is disallowed, the main problem is that most small scripts are designed to work only with access and not with sql.....
