Email and Outlook Passwords

I have this problem with your mail servers and Outlook 2002. Often times (this month much more than usual) when I try to access POP3 mail from your servers via Outlook's Send/Receive, a dialogue box comes up asking for my username and password. Both fields are prepopulated, so I click Okay. It then connects to your server just fine. What makes this irritating is that I have about 7 accounts that I check and they all ask for usernames and passwords almost every other time I'm connecting. I have a couple other accounts that I also check on other servers and they never pop up a dialogue box asking for my username and password. Your servers are the only ones that do it. Do you have any idea why? It's starting to drive me crazy and this month has been progressively getting worse with it's frequency.

Thanks.

I have had the same problem, but only with outlook, it does not do the same thing with Mozilla Mail.

Most likely Outlook ... Microsoft product, what did you expect

Seriously, sometimes if you close Outlook (or even re-boot) it will stop doing until it decides to do it again. Also very common if you are using Norton Antivirus to scan incoming mail from the POP.

Same thing here, but it only happens on Vortechs servers Its a timeout issue between the client issuing the logon request and the server replying I believe.

Brangwyn, I am going to rase the limit of logins at once on the server this may or maynot fix this issue.

It's actually a Microsoft problem which isn't as correctable as Microsoft would like to think!!

Hmmm .. surprised MicroSoft didn't include the common
caveat of, " ... this is a known issue"

Always thought they should re-write that to say:

" ... this is a known issue, but we really don't have
an answer as to why we released this operating
system/software with so many bugs. Rest assured
that the next version will feature newer bugs and
at an increased cost"

Of course PSoft could also use that as well

I don't believe that neccessarily was the cause, I was getting timeouts using other clients other than MS as well.

Actually that Microsoft Technote doesn't apply. It doesn't delete my password, in fact the dialogue box that comes up pre-populates my password with the correct password. It just seems that instead of automatically connecting to the server with the username and password, Outlook wants to ask me if it's okay to connect to the server with that username and password.

But it hasn't happened the latter half of today. Perhaps whatever you did worked, admin?

Theoddity so its a little better now.. Just let us know if you see it again I have it set to 500 users can login at any one time to each mail server I think it will be safe up to 1000 or more but because of spam coming from web servers we try and keep just right so it slows them down..

Well, its been happening a few times today. Recently (11:30 - 11:45 Mountain Time in Colorado) more often than earlier today. I also had it happen once yesterday after the fact. One of the symptoms is that sometimes every account pops up the dialogue box, but more often it's only 1 or 2 accounts that the dialogue box asks me for okay instead of all 7. (I have about 7 accounts that I check simultaneously.)

As for possible troubleshooting of earlier responses, I don't have any Anti-Virus program scanning incoming emails, and when I've closed Outlook and rebooted either it or the system it still does it immediately with the same frequency. The frequency of it happening often times is in clumps rather than a constatnt basis. I may have no problem 1 day, then later on the 2nd day, I'll suddenly get them throughout the whole afternoon or morning. Overall, it's progressively gotten worse since I signed up last May. For several months I had no problems, then it slowly increased. It's only been December and January where it's starting to become annoying. Does that sound about right for those who are experiencing it? The other 3 people in the office also have it come up for them. (But not as regularly because they only check 1 account instead of 8 and as I mentioned earlier it more often happens to a few accounts rather than all accounts.)
