Recommendations for Bulletin Board Programs

I'd like to get any recommendations for Bulletin Board/ Forum programs that work well and work well with Vortech's systems.

I'm not too familiar with features, but I'd like something free, easy to setup and manage, and has anti-spam features.

I've seen PHPBB http://www.phpbb.com/ and SMF http://www.simplemachines.org/ offered on Fantastico. Then of course there's vBulletin here.

Would someone tell me their experiences with certain BB programs?

Thanks.
Michael

If your looking for a basic Windows based forum then Snitz is a good choice.

I've used the following on Vortech and all work fine

Snitz 2000 (ASP)
Invision Power Board (PHP)
vBulletin (PHP)
phpBB2 (PHP But I don't particularly recommend)
SMF (Simple Machines Forum PHP)

My suggestion is Vbulletin, it is the easiest to install and to maintain.

You hit the main ones on the head. I myself prefer phpBB. It's a cinch to install and runs very well. It is also customizable as hell. I know of another bb forum known as punBB. You can find it at http://www.punbb.org/. The xajax guy uses it. http://www.xajaxproject.org/

You may also want to check out this URL http://www.cmsreview.com/Forums/OpenSource.html

I would recommend phpBB though.

free:
punbb (very good forum for least queries and cpu usage over heavy forum)
phpbb (good forum, but you should keep it updated as we have seen major security holes time to time)

commercial:
only vBulletin (almost anything you need to do!)
