Maybe try again.

Ok, now is working for me too, but believe me, was not 10 minutes ago.

dvanburan - do we have to make phone calls now? Here is my ticket history (notice that supposedly 2 senior admins were involved, surely you guys would have noticed them disappearing)

My ticket was TOB-741731 and was opened on December 11th and had about 10 posts to my ticket.

Here is my ticket in reverse order:

Hello,

We're currently experiencing heavy volumes of SMTP traffic on mail11. We're aware of the problems it is causing and we're working on a solution. Thank you for your patience. Please check the forum for updates.

Clayton,
You guys need to post on the forums the history of what is going on. The way it looks to us is that people have been looking at it for almost 24 hours and no one know what is going on.

If you guys have some suspicions or anything, it would at least make us feel better or even if you don't, surely you have some idea as to why email is not working at all.

Please understand that just like you are trying to deal with this, we are trying to deal with this as well (with our customers).

-Randy

Hello,

We currently have another senior tech and I both monitoring it, we are watching the mail move throughout the server, so we can try and pin-point the problem.

Thanks

Clayton,
8 hours ago a senior tech was looking into it. Is he still looking into it or is a new person looking into it and what are they looking at. The problem has been going on for about 20 hours now.

I need to get an update. This has been going on way too long and I don't see anything changing. At one point I was told it would be working "shortly" and that was 4 hours ago. This is completely unacceptable.

mail11 was showing up as having 2 critical issues in Nagios but now it looks clear although the email issues still exist.

I sent an email out at 8:06pm CST and it sent the email 26 times and never left the outbox until I deleted it.

Hello,
It is safe to assume that this will affect both inbound and outbound mail. I apologize for any inconvenience.
Thanks

So, should I assume this is effecting incoming and outgoing email? I sent myself a test email an hour ago and haven't gotten it and I have yet to able to get my email to leave my outbox.

Has this server had lots of problems like this in the past? When I got out of mail7, I was thinking I was getting into a "quiet" new server.

Thanks,
Randy

Hello,

Its hard to give an estimate, because we have no idea how many people are trying to connect. We only know that the available connections are being used. However, we will see mail activity decline as the business day comes to a close around the country.

Josh,
Can you give me a rough idea of "shortly". I'm having to kiss my client's butts because of all the problems on the last mail server and to have this happen and I have no idea when it will be fixed is not going to go over very well.

Can you estimate? 30 min, hour, 5 hours ....

Thanks,
Randy

I moved my client from mail7 to mail11 last week after mail7 was having so many issues. Now my clients are having problems where they aren't getting any email and email is sitting in their outbox and never leaving but the email is being sent over and over again.

dvanburen - did you end up finding all the tickets for mail11? If not, what do you suggest we do in the future?

I'm having problems again with Mail11.
Email gets stuck in the outbox (using Outlook), but the recipient receives multiple copies.

Tech support - please don't let this linger on too long like the last time it happened. Perhaps you have to disable ClamAV again (Brad's earlier post)

Thanks.
Michael

Every single one of those tickets is dated after I left. I stated that there was not one ticket before I left.

This is not the place for this. If you have a problem submit a support ticket. We do not read the forum regularly enough to address problems posted here in a timely fashion.

good luck - just remember hosting is not for the faint of heart - if a few minor problems scares you then you are in the wrong business - besides that new company offers no way as near as the functionality offered by hsphere and vortech and with only linux servers you have a very limited business model – track record over the years is key and Brad and crew have and proved it.

Oh boy.... what a coink-i-dink! I just had a trouble ticket closed out yesterday as i've had problems with mail11 for a few days last week/weekend. I asked if they could clarify if there's been any problems and provide at least a technical repsonse so i could give to my client a decent response (I've sucked the "it's due to the upgrade excuse" well dry last week) Their first response was:
Hello,
I sent mail and received just fine.
Thanks
HUH??!!?? You kidding me?
After 2 or 3 rounds back and forth - including the actual email rejection messages, Support's response was:
We had no reported problems with mail11 over the weekend, so I cannot confirm that there were any issues. The upgrade had no impact on sending/receiving mail.
This customer is pissed and ready to move onward too.
They then told me I must have been confused with the error messages that my client was forwarding to me stating the mail11.xxxxxx.com was non-existant, timed out and failed to deliver. Ticket was closed, me too frustrated to re-open.
VT - It's ticket #RKK-178674 if ya care to look.
Trouble Tickets are becoming useless right now (They've been very good in the past, and i'll give the benefit of the doubt that they'll again improve) but yes, it's the reason for my posting to the forums as well. I wish they would at least be upfront and honest with things and not so quick to close them without resolve.
I've been a huge fan of VT for the last 1.5 yrs . . but seems the last few months have been pretty rough. I sure hope gets better again soon.

Ok first thing is the error message you sent us:

-------------------------------------
>>The original message was received at Fri, 9 Feb 2007 10:24:15 -0800
>>from ppp-71-136-9-168.dsl.sndg02.pacbell.net [71.136.9.168]
>>
>> ----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
>>
>>
>> ----- Transcript of session follows -----
>>... Deferred: Connection timed out with
>>mail11.totalprohosting.com.
>>Message could not be delivered for 1 day
>>Message will be deleted from queue
------------------------------------------------------------------

mail11 had the email it could not send it to the other person correct this is not an incoming message but and outgoing message. This could meant he other persons server is having an issue maybe not ours.

If I am reading that wrong let me know. Is this the only message you have that was not able to be sent, if so then I would say it might be the server we are sending it to has an issue.

No, the other way around. A 3rd party was trying to send an email to my client, who's email is on mail11. Client reported never receiving it. 3rd party not reporting other email errors, indicating hers likely okay. 24hrs later, the 3rd party received an rejection message which was then forwarded to us (via other mail servers/accounts, of course) part of which is included above. The way i read it is that the 3rd party email server (pacbell?) couldn't communicate with mail11 for over 24 hrs. so it gave up and sent them back an error message - again attached in my original ticket.

There's another thread on here saying that someone was getting rejection messages regarding mail11 on/around 09-Feb as well - same time as mine. After support said there was no other reported errors, i found that post and sent it in my ticket.

As i mentioned in the ticket reponses, i'm not trying to be a pain in the ass, nor am i making this stuff up. Trust me, like you, i'd rather be productive. But, this client, who is a very big one of mine (the biggest) and with a very active business, has been having numeruous issues for a week or so. This is one instance that i have actual data (error messages) for.

I'm just trying to get some upfront, honest and technical response as to what's up. I've used the "it's due to the upgrade" excuse too much over the last 2 weeks.

I found the post i referred to
http://forum.vortechhosting.com/show...74-page_2.html
While it may not spell out a specific mail server, 3 or 4 of us had mail issues on/around 2/9. I was getting the same calls from my clients. "mail not working" "not receiving mail" "I've sent myself a test message from yahoo and it's not there." Some of it showed up hours later, some of it never made it, only to have the sending servers receive/generate error messages.
My situation has been identical to TicoGrande's in regards to handling these situations with our customers. The bounce back message i posted in my trouble ticket originated on the same date (2/9/07) just like Ballyhoo. I doubt we're all making this extremely coincindental stuff up at the coincidentially same time.
<p>
In any event, thanks for looking into it though. I still have faith
