I know vortech is very busy at the moment.

I have not submitted a ticket with this question to vortech but if one of the techs can give a definitive answer to this on the forum I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
b

Due to the widespread complaints, we have turned off the filter on port 25. We'll see how this goes....

What gives?

I notice in the control panel it looks like things have been restored again?
Or something else because all accts have a 0MB of MB showing up where it should be saying 1.14MB of 25MB used

This was the major breakthrough last night in the attack.

So use port 2525 from now on at least on Mail7. Now you if happen to run *BSD, Linux, Solaris, etc you will not have a problem on port 25

This apply to mail8 as well? Mail8 only works with this settings... this will be the standart for al mail servers?

what is going on??????

Can someone please tell me why we continue to have problems with the mail servers? All of us who are resellers pay for a service that needs to work all of the time or as promised 99.9% of the time. We need this problem to be fixed. I can't even get a response back to support emails I send in regarding these issues. This is really frustrating. My clients are tired of hearing the phrase " The server administrators are addressing the issue. We hope to have it resolved shortly."

Customers down again

Vortech, it seems we are back to the same problem. Hoping you can resolve this quickly as our customers were down for a day and a half this week. They are not happy to be down again (as I am sure you understand). Please help us resolve this quickly and give us an update if there are going to be delays beyond 1 hour. We have been with you guys for years and you are fantastic, please keep up the great level of service.

Thanks,

John

Eta

Is there an ETA on this being resolved.

4 days and counting. Not sure what other reasons I can give my clients who are on mail7.

As for port 2525 Outlook seems to be pissy when using that port, but not all the time.

Are there any other valid work arounds besides using webmail?

I don't envy you Vortech. I have been in your shoes, and it isn't fun. Lots of stress.

I have been lucky enough to only have my OWN accounts on mail7. Whereas this is a problem, it's not too much of an issue at the moment.

I disagree with the blocking method the was being used. There are any number of ways to send email and any number of mail server types. If I'm misunderstanding the method, I apologize.

To Everyone Else,

I know that your customers are calling you and threatening to leave, but putting constant pressure on Vortech to fix this problem is NOT helping matters. They are aware of the problem and are working to get it fixed ASAP. Generally they are able to fix problems faster than any other online company I have seen.

I wish you good luck in resolving this matter, and wish I could offer you an alternative method of breaking the flood... and Aaron? Take a deep breath and release. This too will eventually be over =)

Well, now that 25 is open again it's down again, might as well go back to 2525 and i'll continue using unix boxes to filter the messages so at least they get their mail.

Please use port 2525 for outgoing SMTP communications.

If you still have problems submit a traceroute to support from the location with issues.

You have to use port 2525 if you're running Windows XP or Windows 98.

That's great for those who have administrative access to a *nix box, but for those of us who don't have that kind of access, or whose *nix boxes are living behind DSL or Cable modems this is not an option.

Question So are we good to go?

I'm confused ... does Vixen's last comment mean the problem is resolved? I had my client switch to 2525 a couple days ago. I'd like to call my clients and tell them with some certainty that we are good to go.

If it is fixed, can someone explain what the problem, the solution and what has been done to prevent this in the future?

No hurry, just when you guys get a chance.

Thanks!

Traceroute is clean, telnet to port 25 connects. Any thoughts?

I think the 2525 port switch has mostly been successful for outgoing mail for most of us - there are reports of some users having intermittent issues with outlook and port 2525.

The larger and more concerning problem is that (it seems to me as) incoming mail is not being received my a majority of us on mail7 from external or non-unix servers. I dont know if in the context of filtering the incoming mail, all MS based incoming mail is being blocked or not.

(a.k.a I do not receive any mail from the customers of mine who send mail from a MS based mail server or MS Exchange)

I will readily admit I don't know if that is the problem right now, or if coincidentally it seemd this is the case.. I'll wait for Vortech to explain the exact issues at hand right now - this is now beyond just a serious issue and I have complete faith that Vortech will find the appropriate solution.

I just hope it comes soon

-Dustin
