For a start I think vortech do a great job and have been a very happy customer.
BUT
Can we have / subscribe to an automatic e-mail that you can inform us when there is a problem instead of having to wade through all the forum messages to get the answer after having received numerous phone calls.
I have only ever received one message on this issue so far and considering its importance maybe there should be some more..

I guess it would be good to get some closure on the issue, but thats sounds easier than it is.

Keep up the good work

Which are the steps to move a client to a different mailserver?

Which are the steps to move a client to a different mailserver?

I've seen a few references to it, about turning off the service and losing the mailboxes, but its not clear to me how to do it from hsphere control panel.

Thanks

Emiliano

All - for what its worth, I moved my clients to a new server (mail 11) about 2 hours ago and they are already starting to receive emails. They are pretty excited about being able to send/receive emails!

I still have one client on mail7, contemplating moving them next.

Good luck to all.

Emiliano,
I simply took a screen shot of all the email accounts and then made sure I had all their passwords. Then I went into Hsphere and turned off the mail option, it will ask if you are sure, and I said yes. Then I turned it back on. Then I went and set them up the exact same way they were before. Does that help?

update

I was in the process of updating mail7 to run spamd locally when the link between mail7 and the spamd box dropped. I had to drive to the DC and finish the spamd install on mail7. It's now up with the old DB intact. We did find a problem with the mail7 spamd box that would cause some IPs to be whitelisted, but not redirected to the correct port. The local install and all the other installs do not have this problem.

For anyone keeping track, there are 158400 IPs in the whitelist.

For anyone contemplating moving accounts: Mail11 will get spamd within the week.

I've been monitoring the situation on mail7 with interest. Now it's not interesting anymore.

I just got off the phone with a client which is on mail7 which is now an ex-client as he is leaving to be hosted elsewhere.

I was real nice and understanding, maybe someday he will be back. It sure hurts though.

A client just asked what will happen to mail during a switch from one email server to another.

I understand the 24 hours propagation but if I turn off and back on and immediately recreate all accounts what will happen to any mail during that time?

Also what will happen to any mail during the time before propagation is complete?

Whew.......... that was a long question....but I need to know the answer.

Thanks,
b

I tried this, but got this error:

Quote:
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, root@cp.hoodedmonk.net and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

... wtf I've lost two customers and I don't blame them.

Thanks for the response.

Do you mean that mail will not be placed in a queue until propagation is complete?

New question from same client.

Apparently their Verizon blackberry mail is being lost or delayed.

I don't know about blackberries but maybe they are not being white listed.
Maybe whatever proxy they are going thru is not set up to try to resend and never get whitelisted.

Is is possible to manually whitelist an email server?

Wow .......This hosting thing is turning out to be a full time job ..............
