So We have to wait?
A customer wants to send a file that requires quick action - Now we have to wait 7.5 to 30 minutes to get it - Instead of the usual 30 to 60 seconds? Instead of helping them while we're on the phone - We have to call them back the first time?
Please advise - Because if this is the case - It sucks! ...Ryan |

We have long since moved to a different box to route our mail for now but...for all other people that are wondering...
Has the block on smtp relay from Windows Exchange servers been resolved so mail7 and mail8 can receive those messages? Vortech has incorrectly blocked Windows boxes for at least 3 out of this 5 day crisis and still won't answer posts to the tune that they have been improperly blocking Exchange server emails and all vortech customers deserve a credit as a result!!! Otherwise it is going to be a double-bad day for all vortech hosters...

Thank you microm.
So all that said .. is mail8 fully functional then ? or are there still issues I should be aware of? |

Brad, thanks for the info. A DOS attack is much less frustrating for us if we know what is going on. it was VERY frustrating when this started and there was no indication (that I'm aware of) of what was going on. is it possible for you guys to develop some sort of conspicuous alert system so that resellers can know what is happening as early as possible? any info is better than none. I do have one question related to the procedure you described about setting the smtp server to port 2525: how does that decrease spam if it's working on OUR outgoing mail only? maybe that picture you mentioned would be worthwhile to post up somewhere to enhance the explanation. thanks again. Rich

So it will take 7.5 to 30 mins to receive email, instead of ussual seconds.
This is not a good solution at all to us and our clients. I often talk to clients, and they email me details that I have to look at right away, and so do many of my customers. Many do some programming and expect to receive emails right away. This solution is really not going to work for me and my clients. |

Just to test if email can be received we'll have to wait for about 1/2 hour. This is really not going to work.
I'm sure we are not the only ones who think that way. |

Did you even read the post? Please read it again. It clearly says only the FIRST time they send you an email, after that it's back to seconds. If it's someone you NEVER talked to before I am sure you can wait 7.5 mins. I don't see that being the end of the world I mean do you check your email more than every 5 min if so then you need to change that. Let me explain it again for you as no one seems to read my posts, the wait will ONLY be the very first time a MAIL server sends you an email it's not based on from address or email address but IPs. So once someone from yahoo sends and email from one of there mail servers all of that mail server is cleared the next time and the mail skips right by and in to your inbox. With the amount of mail we get the delay for mast real mail server will be gone with in a few days if not already and non of this applies to our systems as they are already white listed. Same for your forums, forms, shopping carts on our systems they should pass right though the proxy no wait or retry needed.

That time frame only applies to the first email from a given server. Once the first one's been processed, all subsequent ones will be handled as they are now.

Ok so I tested this my self, time stamp in the subject time the mail came in to our system all the way to webmail.
TEST 7:18 email showed up in less than a min. at 7:19 EXCAHNGE SERVER TEST 7:20PM email showed up in less than a min. at 7:20 GMAIL TEST 7:28PM email showed up in less than a min. at 7:28 HOTMAIL THE SLOWEST MAIL SERVERS EVERY. Attached is a screen shot of this on an email account I have never used before on mail8. I can't even get a message to be delayed I tested like 5 other free email sites all worked with in second and all were less than 5 min.

Also there is already 73406 allowed mail servers on mail7 and mail8 will grow just as fast, it's already go over 7k in less than a few hours.. One thing to remember this is per server not per account so anyone from gmail, yahoo, somedomain.com as long as it's real will clear the IP for everyone on that server. We are looking at blending the lists as well but that will take a bit of work. But it is being looked in to so we can run them all off the same list.
But the good thing is this will stop a LOT of spam once setup and given time to work, it just sucks we had to do it under a current attack and I think 5 min wait is still better than NO mail at all because the server is being attacked and is still under attack.

I'm glad a solution is at hand even if that solution is only a partial solution.
Good to see pro-active efforts. Thanks

Well, if in practive it's not going to make much difference in how clients receive emails, then I guess it's fine.
Thank You for your examples. |

I have my clients sorted now, but some using the mac os are having the odd problem pulling the mail off the server. It shows in the @mail but will not pull off the server to their PC. Does anyone have a similar issue?
