Mail Servers

Getting a ton of tickets on this, though it may help some of you,, thanks to Mike B!

There are a number of reasons that can cause the "553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)" error. The first item to check is that your email client is configured to check mail before it sends out. Our Mail Servers use pop before send as a form of authentication. This ensures that only users on our server can send mail. What this means is our servers cannot be used as open relays for spammers.

In most email programs you simply need to make sure your outbox is empty and check your mail, our server will remember your IP address and will accept mail from you. The servers are currently configured to remember for 15 minutes so if you leave your computer or it's not configured to automatically check your mail you will receive this error after 15 minutes.

In the newer versions of outlook there is an option to check your mail before sending, it's located under the outgoing mail server tab. Other email clients may have this option so look for something referring to login before sending. SMTP authentication is something different and will not work on our servers. "My server Requires Authentication" for example, should not be checked.

Our mail servers are configured to reject mail that is not hosted on our network, you can't send mail out from our servers with a "From" address that is not hosted on our network. This is to prohibit someone from trying to fake their from address. If you have the wrong from address the server will not allow you to send the message.

Hey Craig! I took a look at that option in the new Outlook, no go. It seems that you can't activate the option to check mail before you send without FIRST activating My SMTP requires auth.

Is anyone else able to do this?

Email does not work

This trick of checking mail before sending does not work. I checked all my email, and still cannot send through Outlook.

I have to say this is very frustrating not being able to send. It is also frustrating that the tech requests are not being given any solution either.

But since we are all in the same boat, I hope that it will become important enough that you will fix it.

I have been sending emails with no problems, as have many others, as long as you dont have mail in your outbox you can force outlook to check mail first.

Not true in my case. I have emptied my outbox. Signed out of Outlook. Rebooted the computer. Then signed in, with nothing in the outbox, and tried to send. No luck.

I kept getting "553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts" error messages when trying to send email out using Outlook 2002 configured as an IMAP client (not POP).

I tried a lot of things and was really pulling my hair out.

Finally, I entered the SMTP setting for my Internet service provider (smtp.comcast.net) and it finally worked!

The from address is the domain I have on my server. I am using mail.thewebpros.com. I can send email from other accounts not on Vortechs server. The only email I can not send form is on Vortechs servers.

BTW, it is not the "553" error. It is saying unable to connect to the server.

DOH! i see that right up above, sorry, I should have known!

This has caused quite an industry stir with their blocking, but I amused to it, has been done that way for a long time to me.

No, I use Cox. And like i said, I can send from other email addresses not on vortechs servers. Just Vortechs is having this issue. It isn't, obviously, that it is blocked, or I could not send from any.

bfriended, I am sorry, but you can't blame this on us at all, I have the OFFICIAL word from Cox right here:

http://support.cox.net/custsup/email/email_info.shtml

BTW, if you want to gripe, Call COX, there is NOTHING we can do about it. This is something new they are doing.

Right, but I have never had any issue till 2 days ago. I have talked to Cox yesterday, when your tech guys asked for my IP address (your guy has not responded in about 24 hours either) and they said it is on your end. They even said to have you guys call them and they would help if you could not figure it out.

BTW, I appreciate your help. I am looking forward to getting this fixed, as it is a royal pain in the a**!
