Outlook 2007

Anyone else using Outlook 2007 and is it painfully slow for you as it is for me. I'm about ready to uninstall it and go back to Outlook 2003. Seems like it takes twice as long to download my mail, search, etc.

My laptop is a 2Ghz Duo Core with 2GB of RAM so I can't imagine that it's that. I'm running it on Windows XP Professional.

Just wondering if it was me or the product itself.

No issues with Outlook 07 here, seems fine, though I am using it in cached exchange mode with the Exchange server sitting next to it so probably a totally different setup than yours.

You don't have any RSS Feeds set up do you? they could cause slowdowns in send & receive if in the default group.

Nope, no rss feeds. Yes, my setup would be different. I'm checking 25 or so POP3 mailboxes at a time and end up downloading 200 or so messages at a crack. I was doing the same before "upgrading" this weekend and I swear it takes 2 or 3 times longer. May disable my Trend Micro spam catcher and see what happens, they may not be "as compatable".

My other thought was to "upgrade" to Vista (I've got the disk, just didn't want to mess with it) and see if it runs better with it.

Thoughts??

I am using OL 2007 which I converted from Thunderbird. I noticed OL 2007 was MUCH slower than what I had been experiencing in Thunderbird, but I narrowed the problem down to the fact that my pst file was well over a gig. Given what you've said above, I have to guess you're running a large pst file as well. What I've found is that if you archive all of your old email into another pst file, the whole outlook application starts running a whole lot faster.

Well just to through a spanner in the .pst file size issue, mine is currently just barely under 2GB and I have some mail being delievered straighit into that and some staying in the exchange inbox

But your right a large .pst file isn't going to help, archive everything older than 12 months and see what a difference it makes (I make an archive every year of the past years mail and just burn a copy of safe keeping)

archiving in 6 or 12 months basis would be great, since large files make it slower. we had this problem once, and now as we are using 6 months archiving, it grows 1GB max, and is much faster than before.

Yeah, I archive each year and always have. However based on some things you've said I disconnected the archives from Outlook. They were always a separate .pst but I kept them connected to Outlook so I had about 7 sets of folders connected (personal folder, archive, archive2005, archive2004, etc)

Seems like that has helped a little. Even at that, I had it setup that way in Outlook2003. I also converted my .pst via an import function to the new format. I've been running Outlook since Office97 and my personal folder and archive was in the older format of .pst. Not sure if that helped or not.
