Just a note, if this was an issue with the number of DSN's then when I remove 50 of them it should work. I have removed 50 or so DSN's and restarted CF and nothing same errors.

Frustrating for everyone, to say the least... I've already sent my one and only CF client the courtesy instructions on how he can move to another host. I really feel for the resellers here who have many many CF clients, just as if all my own Windows/ASP clients suddenly found their boxes stopped working. Jeez.. what a mess.

I fully support Brad et al, and everythign they've tried doing on this issue... and know they're doing they're best. Nothing can get back any of the clients we lose, but there also doesn't appear to be any magic-wand any of us can use to UNDO a software problem like this after it's happened... so knocking Brad's team for any reason at this point seems a waste of energy IMO.

Brad,

For what it is worth.

For the record I, for one, am not using Vortech because I ever thought you folks were the CF experts of the world. I use Vortech because you try hard and the support folks are the best I have ever encountered.

Have you considered seeking expert help from someone other than MM? As we all know just because someone works for the company that makes the product doesn't automatically make them all that smart.

I am not sure I know who that is, but having been involved in the CF-Talk discussion group for over 5 years, I can give you a couple of names of people who appear to be extremely knowledgeable with CF. I can assure you that both of these fellows are much more knowledgeable of CF than anyone I have ever encountered at CF. If they can't help you I suspect they can put you in touch with someone who can.

1. Dave Watts, CTO, Fig Leaf Software http://www.figleaf.com/
dwatts@figleaf.com

2. Michael Dinowitz
mdinowit@houseoffusion.com

I think Micahel might be a competitor, but he doesn't seem to be one that would prevent him from helping you.

I think this has gone beyond a serious problem.

MY customers are calling about THEIR websites
- because THEIR customers are calling THEM.

MY customers are the ones saying this is a serious problem.

We need to fix this problem very soon
- or I won't have to worry about MY customers calling me.

Several of them have already made this point very clear
- verbally, and by cancelling their accounts with us.

There are only so many excuses that I can come up with.

Please people - patience is a virtue - but this HAS TO GET FIXED SOON.

We are bleeding customers now.

My customers have already lost money from customers who have bailed.

My customers are bleeding customers.

It doesn't matter who's fault it is - so the finger pointing is useless.

What I have yet to hear... is even a hint of what's causing the problem... and this seriously bothers me. A problem cannot be fixed - if you don't know what the problem is. And it seems like no one even knows what the problems is !

You cannot count on Macromedia to solve this issue. They are not physically at the box. They cannot the see the issues as they occur. At this point - I would consider this to be a sinking boat... and we are the rats. Macromedia is a on a different boat... so don't count on them.

There has to be a logical answer.

I would say drop CF MX and reinstall CF 5.0. This way - operation would return for most of the CF websites. Then you can deal directly with the ones that are stuck on the CFMX platform. Maybe setup a specific box just for them.

So I assume that what you are saying is that you prefer to be told "we are working with it as fast as we can" instead of what is actually wrong and what they are doing to fix it?

Not me, I want to know how, what, why, where, and when. I applaud the frank reporting and the intelligent methods being used by the team at Vortech and offer another thank you for being determined enough to find the "problem children" which has finally allowed the majority to recover.

Right on! I've tried MANY hosting companies, and no hosting company has EVER been as responsive as Vortech.

Well, you'd think $500 would buy you something...

Ok Good news,

CF is working again but need to be quite a bit more strict on how we submit the DSN's. We wil be doing them all manually again in small increments. You must submit the following to support@vortechhosting.com:

UID: db username
PWD : db password
DSN name:
db Server:
Database name:
driver-name | MySQL , Ms SQL etc

You must include all of the above info or we cannot add the DSN for you.
