In outlook 2003, when you set up your account, hit the "Advanced Options" button then go to the "Outgoing Server" tab and select "My .... requies autentication" and "Use same settings as incoming".

One note about specifying the mail server...
using mail.domain.com works for smtp and pop if it's not your service domain. For your service domain, you have to specify the particular mail serger - e.g. mail2.domain.com

Well, that's real cool if I knew where to find it. Why does broadband work and not dialup? Actually, I don't think it's my problem but my clients problem. How can anybody guarantee that email will work for all the isp's out there? If it works for one isp and not another then it is not the email server (vortech), it's the isp. Unfortunately, I provide managed hosting and everyting is my problem! Thanks Edge3.

Just to toss some additional info your way that may have a bearing on the problem...

If they didn't have outgoing (smtp) authentication set, the problem may be with the timing of the send request and not with the connection itself.

Outlook and outlook express connect to check pop3 email at some interval specified by the user - like every 10 or 15 minutes. The credentials from the pop3 connection are good for some period of time - with my isp it appears that the credentials established by the pop3 hold for about 5 minutes. I believe the timeout is set by the isp.

If I don't have smtp authentication set up, I can send an email within 5 minutes after doing a pop3 check. If it's 6 minutes later, the smtp will fail.

When I manually initiate a send/recieve, the smtp send runs before the pop3 receive and fails if there was no pop3 check run within the previous 5 minutes.

That's good info because I was doing some testing with a client using earthlink dialup, which also is not working properly, and it worked intermitently which could be a timing issue.

It works for me in OE. Check the option under the account then (My server requires auth)
then tell it to log on using (user name and pass) I just checked it and it works fine. I don't use this regularly so a timing issue wouldn't surprise me. I didn't test it alot so... Could also be related to domain aliasing.(still timing) Earthlink requires you use their servers...if you use 2525 port you may get around this tho. Haven't tried it recently.

You might go looking for outlook express repair and recovery outlook express email. I have been using it without problem since it came out.

Mail sending issue

Thanks Silverbug for replying. I am actually using the outlook 2003, the issue is that I using the configuration where one enabled the: SMTP server requieres authentication. But suddenly last week it stopped sending out mails. I looked into de configuration everything look perfect but no mail could be sent from the account. I have used this email account over for many years.

The message says there's problem with the email address field in the error message, but it's weird, the email address is well spelt.

If somebody knows why this error message comes up, it will be highly appreciated if I will be informed.

Thanks

Joem

Sounds like your isp may be now blocking all traffic from port 25 that doesn't have one of their email accounts as the sender address in an effort to stop people from relaying off of their servers. They should be able to put you on a white list if you have a dedicated IP or you might try configuring outlook outlook to use port 2525 for smtp - might also require a change to your firewall settings if you do that.

you need to enabled. disabled will not work.

use port 2525 as stated. (I know for sure that aol, and earthlink block port 25)

or you can also try to use isp's smtp server.
