Hey guys/gals. Has FP support for unix been officially discontinued and server side extensions gone? I have a couple of sites in FP that I wanted updated, but now I get the "Unable to Open" server error that SharePoint is not installed on the Vortech servers.

This must have just happened within the past 1-2 weeks, as I was able to get in a couple of days ago and perform updates.

As far as I know that went in January.... but is retained for windows servers that ALREADY have it enabled - though certain bots might not be able to be used ... the upload bot went early in 2007 ... not sure what is retained the forms are .. that is the only bot i have still in use that I am sure about... I mainly use fpse just to publish and open the site live... but I now use Expression web and you can open the web live with ftp not all the same features are available and you have to be sure about what your doing with publishing also and updating... but I can still open live which is the main thing... also publishing with ftp in ew is not as bad as fp (passwords retained problem of course but that is expected to be fixed in the next version of ew).. there is always filezilla which is the only third party ftp prog I've had that actually works and is easy to use and its free too.... so... nothing much to worry about really... one should be moving on from the bots at this late stage...fpse is only good for publishing in fp but with ew that problem goes away.

oh they said they would see how it goes with the windows servers for six months then address it again... at least that gives users more time to transition and we have had quite a bit some hosts announce it with one breath and remove it in the next... I think things have gone pretty well as regards fpse and this host... I did not want to move and now I do not have to

hth Tina

I noticed this in the last week or so that the FP extensions finally died on the Unix servers.

As for EW, it works okay but nothing beats FP or Dreamweaver for speed of site development. We had a competition between two equally matched web developers using EW and FP to build out a site with exactly the same template and specs. The FP development took 1/4 of the time to do, then published via FTP.

We primarily used FP because customers could use it to easily update their web page text in wysiwyg mode. Now most of them are using EditPadPro and text mode editing, and are not surprisingly unhappy.

We removed FP extensions from our Unix machines last Wednesday.

Thanks. Ok, this might be a different thread, but now that FP is gone, I am trying to use Expressions AND Dreamweaver built-in FTP to upload files. I am having a problem with both. It gets stuck on the listing pages section and fails. Is anyone else having this problem with old FP sites?
