Curt: Sorry... I'm the resident optimist... are you after my job
![]() Seriously - I see where your coming from - now translate that to a reseller that has a lot of clients, how long would he be in business? Especially when the client turns around and says "well you provide the script - I can install it directly from my CP... now you tell me I've got to have a knowledge of coding to make it work?".

My question is, did anyone corrected the script or is going to be an on going battle every time a new client sings up.

You would have to ask the developers of the script. |

Gee, thanks Light Speed. Like the developers of the script have something to do with this, It was working just fine till Vortech changed their set up.

Are all the php scripts here w/o a place to put a from address w/o altering code? What does that include oscommerce and phpbb? Is this true of the newest versions of these scripts?

Well in a way the developers do have something to do with it. A good script for PHP driven apps will give you GUI control over what email address any emails the the script generates come from allowing you to set this during install of the script and giving you the ability to change it easily when you wish. IMHO no script should be sending without a valid From these days on any host so I feel it is the developers job to take deeper responsibility of the way their script deals with this issue. |

As a sidenote I'm not saying I'm a happy camper as I'm running scripts that have the same issue and have had to dig through the code to find the mail function and hardcode something in.
Not fun. |

I would think that the pre-installed scripts come from some common source at Vortech. Those scripts should be changed to reflect what's necessary for them to run "as-is" at Vortech.

That’s exactly my point dpyers, they are pre-installed scripts by Vortech and should be changed by Vortech to function in their set up, I’m sure they are going to correct them one of this days.
I know I have to change the scripts I have activated already but I’m going to play with scripts every time some one activates one. Bay the way does any know if we have to correct PHPBB2 or not? |

At least in CPanel I thought all the provided scripts were part of the CPanel install and that the upgrades to those scripts occurred at each CPanel upgrade and it was up to the CPanel devs to get the new code for the script devs to add to the CPanel install package.
I don't run an HSphere account so I'm not sure what 3rd party scripts are offered there. When Vortech gets updates to CPanel or HSpere do they have access to the individual script code or is it installed as a package each time a new account is set up? PHPBB doesn't require code modification. In the admin area of PHPBB under General Admin -> Configuration then down near the bottom there is a pace to enter the Admin Email Address for the board. That is the email address that gets used as the From: and the Reply-To: for all emails sent by the forum. If you are the admin and you then go into your personal profile and change your personal email it will not affect the email entered in the Admin config area. The name is just a little confusing ![]() |

I don't mean to be an alarmist, and I really hope that I am wrong, but...
I am a reseller with three OSCommerce ecommerce sites. I attempted to add a dummy account and order from an ecommerce that know generated traffic a month ago. As a result, I did not receive the welcome email as a subscriber, and as the admin, I did not receive notification of the new user, nor did I receive a copy of the dummy order to process. To me, that means that every OSCommerce and PHPBB account that Vortech has, either through resellers or their own customers, has this same problem unless someone goes in and hardcodes changes within the hundred or so lines of code in a couple of .php scripts. And unless I am wrong, and I hope that I am, the only reason that this hasn't blown up to the potential seriousness that it is, is because most store owners don't know about it yet. And the average store owner isn't going to know, or even care about changing it themselves. My concern is that if orders and customer signups are missed because store owners do not get proper notifications resulting in dropped orders and credit card chargebacks, that presents a tremendous liability issue for someone... potentially the resellers and, I would think Vortech. All I know is that I am not receiving new signups, orders, and the customer is not receiving automatically generated correspondence from any of the OSCommerce accounts that we own, that were working fine a couple of weeks ago. And that is just OSCommerce. I'm told that this also affects PHPBB as well, and I don't know about any other third party applications that use PHP. Is this a valid concern? Vortech is a good company, and I know that they are working on it. But in the meantime, this issue has shut down a major component to ecommerce- at least for our firm. |

Can a request be sent to osCommerce to make their mailing script more complaint ASAP? There are buttons in the HSPHERE control panel that allow users to install and configure this system themselves without any developer. Most small store owners are not developers, nor can they afford our rates. So, for most people we host who want an online store, we've got nothing to provide them until and unless the software is capable of working in this environment right out of the box...

treeves the php scripts seem to be at issue. Are you saying you did not get an email from a new web acct signup? That is not good. I am actually disappointed that these scripts were not better coded, however, things probably should have been tested before the rollover. Any recent script should have a place to put a real email address. I believe vortech can put whatever version they want of these apps on the backend.
