Cpanel

OK. I am posting in chit chat cause I looked at the CPANEL posts and it does not appear to be the most active forum.

Anyway...I will be moving from my current hosting provider to Vortech (Matirx) over the next several days.

I just submitted a support request to have my Custom Name Servers created, which I found I had to do from a post in CPANEL.......

Now, I would like to move thse sites, and I can run back ups of all my sites on the current host with CPANEL, however, I do not see a BACKUP slot in WHM to complete restores.

Anyone know how to get this done?

Thanks,

One way (may not be the best way) is when you add an account in WHM go into that accounts individual CPanel admin page and under backup you should be able to upload from your machine your back up from your old host.

It means you have to do each account separately through their own cpanel admin page one at a time.

I don't have a problem if that works, but I have been with two previous CPANEL providers where this feature did not work for my users, and I could not do it through WHM and I had to open support tickets with the higher ups to get them accomplished, which I am not a real big fan of, since it slows down the overall process.

I swiched a few hosts before finding Vortech and here is the deal:
Using Backup worked for 90% of accounts... For the other 10% it was hell :wink2:. Errors were found after the site was switched and the everything had to be done in a hurry (usually this affects the biggest accounts and they are the ones that pay the most).

Here is what I would do:
1. use backup to transfer sites
2. have manual backups prepared just in case... (zip files of sites and SQL sentances of databases)
3. after restoring check files for permissions/ownership, emails (password can ba corrupt), databases (be sure to use same usernames on new server or else you are heading for a trouble) etc.
4. check, recheck and rerecheck if everything is in order
5. switch over and enjoy hosting with Vortech

As for cPanel forum... most uf the guys here are on H-Sphere, so there are not that many posts for cPanel, but support for it is the best I have seen ( there really is 24/7 support).
If you have any question not related entirely to cPanel I am sure you can get good help from forum users (It hasn't failed me so far).

Good luck

Thanks for the advice and info bocosoft. When I do the back up restoral, I will go into the account for the customer and click Upload? Will this take care of it? My other provider it did nothing for me.

Also, I do not have all the logins for my clients any longer as some have changed. How do I create their account without to much known interruption? Any ideas?

Actually you have Restore a Home Backup, but basically it's and upload/extract routine. It should restore everything (inc. passwords). This worked for me on most accounts.

If backup/restore doesn't work... you should prepare your clients for such interventions. If they do not store all their passwords you can create new ones... not very pro... most clients will understand... probably
:wink2:

You can prepare everything and then call just those few clients for additional info you need (or explain that you will change some pwd's). I hope your not in a hurry to transferr (I was a few times ... once I slept got about 4 hours of sleep in three days... make sure you don't ran out of caffee)

Luckily I am good! I am in no hurry and don't even have to move everyone! I have a couple of sites running Locked Area Pro (a password protection script) that I really do not want to rebuild those databases again.

90% of my clients I administer, and they are small. I am not a big company, at times like these I am very happy for that.

My other provider offered me some free service after he lost all my data in December, and said he built a system that will be reliable.. and that has not panned out.

I am not telling him I am moving, just going to remove sites one at a day.. .maybe even one a day!

My clients will have to update their Name Servers, so, I will not be in a hurry.

Thanks for your help... I hope it all works out for me!
