Unable to create new MS SQL DB
I am using web Data administrator to connect to SQL Server, I am able to connect successfully but can not create a new Database. I get the following error: "permission denied in database master"
Any ideas? Thanks, Justin. |

You have to create DB's using your domain's CP. I don't think you'll be able to do it using Web Data Administrator.

I found I had to use CP to create a user login first, then create the db. Keep an eye the dropdowns if you have multiple db logins to make sure what you want has been selected.

Anyone have any idea why MSSQL manager in the CP is giving me a page not found error?
Thanks, Justin. |

Becuase the MSSQL Manager is .NET based, you must have it enabled on the plan you wish to use it on. |

you might have to manually go to yourdomain.com/MSSQL and log in appropriately. It still uses the user
assword@ syntax, which is broken for quite some time thansk to IE patches. So either get the regfix (elsewhere on the forum and in the downloads section) or edit the address bar... |

If your sure you have .NET turned on, then try turning it off and on again, sometimes (often actually after a CP upgrade) the .NET gets it's self in a twist and switching it off and back on corrects things.

I havent used the .NET EM very much, but I'm not 100% sure you can actually use it for running scripts and importing data, it's really just designed to allow you to edit the table structure and data online.
The DSN you create via the Control Panel though anyway (though I'd recommend you dont use a DSN but rather use and OLEDB DSNLess connection instead) You may find you need to grab yourself the full Enterprise Manager (or better yet grab the express 2005 beta from MS I think thats available to the general public now and has a flash new interface) |

You can create tables and such with it, but don't think you can really use it for import. You can get Enterprise manager as part of the MSSQL Devolpers editions which goes for $40-$50 US. Well worth the proce just to get the Enterprise Manager.
On the MS MSDE site, they also have a list of 3rd party products that can also be use for full MSSQL. dbamgr2k is one that a lot of people use and it's a freebie. I would however, recommend dropping the bucks for the MSSQL developer edition - just to get Enterprise Manager. It has its flaws, but just about any example of mssql administration you'll find will be showing how it's done in EM. IIRC, asp.net has a beta version of a new MSSQL manager. Snowbound.com also sells some 3rd party plugins for DonNetNuke that are for MSSQL admin - unfortunately, many of them use SQLDMO whic is not installed on Vortech's servers.
