accessing mailserver via PDA

i have a client trying to use a Palm Tungsten i710 with VersaMail on it to access
a mailbox on mail.
questions:
would he Imap or POP protocol ( is Imap generic or for atmail webmail only).
would his username be the full email address of the box he is trying to access.
would his password be the box password.
would he put mail.his_domain.com as the SMTP and POP
Is there any other authentication he needs to use?

He can't seem to connect, and i've not even held a Palm.
All help appreciated.

ramjet,

I'm not familiar with PDA's either, but the documentation for this thing is at:
http://www.palmone.com/us/software/v...5_Handbook.pdf

I took a quick look and noticed that it has a prerequisite specific to PALM's (I think) found on Page 8, referencing the "Network" settings.

Two things:
1)It should use the same settings as any POP email client accessing our servers:
-Incoming/Outgoing Server Settings
-Entire email address
-Password for that account
2) You may be getting yourself into a situation that is not necessarily your responsibility. If you can verify that the email account is accessible via POP protocol (Outlook, or some other desktop client), it should be your client's responsibility to get it working on the PALM. Just my opinion but it's his device and he has the instruction book.

Now would be a good time for a "We don't support that"

I've used a Pocket PC many times to access mail no problems here (both IMAP & POP3), I would say its a "user issue" preventing your customer from connecting personally.

It's basically exactly the same as if you were setting up a PC client like outlook .. username will be the full email address.

No problem, I think Brangwyn & I pretty much had the same thoughts, just that his version was more to the point

i have versamail working fine with a palm tungsten T3.
the configuration is pretty much like the outlook configuration.
mail.mydomain.com both for pop and SMTP and for user user@mydomain.com.
i don't remember if there is any option within versamail where you put my server needs auth but i think it has.
I can check when i get home ´cos i don't have the palm with me right now.
