We have been noticing connectivity issues too (for the last hour or so).

Any idea on where the problem is?

It does look like DOS, but maybe it stg. worse (like Windows.

Bostjan

We have swapped over to the backup router since we could not even ping it at first. We will now be looking into what caused the issue.

It never fails, I make upgrades to one of my sites, send out my once in a rare while newsletter to draw in some of the 600+ registered users, and then poof they all hit the wall trying to get on. I don't know about all of you out there, but I have a problem with 600 site users getting constantly disappointed.

I thought the purpose of the failsafe routers to prevent any downtime. Seems to me that over 45 minutes (so far) of sluggishness, DNS errors, and whatnot is not an effective backup.

I couldn't reach anything, and I wasn't able to since I started trying at about 8:00-8:30 AM EST. What was coming in without a DNS error is slower than heck. At about 9:30 AM EST it finally popped, but how long will that last? If I base that on prior experiences it will only return and cause problems throughout the day and week.

I don't mean to sound like I am bitching or anything; however, this is how the last downtime started. It started with a little problem and bloomed. After that was fixed, since I was assured that backups were put in place, I decided not to claim my refund for that downtime even though I had the proper right to. I am not so sure I will keep bending over like that though.

Now that I have ranted, please explain to me how this whole failsafe is supposed to work? Does the network protect itself or does an administrator need to hotswap in order for the protection to be enacted?

Yes, I'm not sure what's going on either but for a while I couldn't get anything. Then I started getting a little response but web pages wouldn't load fully. Now I'm noticing some improvement but it's still very sporadic.

Actually, rebooting the firewall corrected the issue.

maytrick, someone has to go to the data center to plug in the secondary router if there is an issue. It does not automatically fail over. However, when the tech switched to the secondary router some of the issues persisted thus the firewall was rebooted and the issues cleared up. He also rebooted the main router and switched back to it before leaving the data center.

Well we have found the issue, was not the router after all but the firewalls, I am not sure if the pix just can't cut it with our network or what. But its got me looking at netscreen 1000's as I hate getting that call at 9am going the network is having issues.

normally you guys are very quick......but it took a lot of time start back this time. Perhaps no one was at the monitors?

lucky me I didn't have anything special going like maytricks, but I can understand how frustrating it can get, especially if you have just launched an advertising campaign......

At first everything just slowed down and when we switched from our T1 to Road Runner it looked to speed back up. Then it slowed down again so we realized it was not an issue with the T1 but something else. That was when the techs went to switch the router over and reboot the firewall. Sometimes it takes more than 5 minutes to figure out what an issue is and how to correct it, unfortunately.

It's the nature of networking really, it does take time to diagnose a problem and find the cause of it.

Just as a side note though, things still seem to be a little sluggish to me.

Everything seems up to speed for me from home. My site and email are always the first thing to go (at least that is how it seems), so I always know if there is slow down or a problem. LoL

Well certainly seems sluggish for me (at times) and I'm receiving similar comments from customers from around the world too, will keep monitoring it, it's working and thats the main thing right now.
