Network Solutions move

If I jump ship from Network Solutions to another registrar will I get the obligatory 24 – 72 hours of darkness on my site? With recent signups I don’t want to do that. But without my service domain on the new registrar I can’t register the new DNS servers or at least it seems. What’s the deal?

To combat my usual double and triple posts I am taking a wire cutters and cutting the power cable at the same time as I enter this post. In advance I am thanking anyone for any help on my registrar question. As soon as my new power cable comes in from NewEgg I will be checking the message board for your response.

Thank you ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhzap

Yeah, you may have some downtime when you register your nameservers with your new registrar, but my recommendation to limit that is to transfer to GoDaddy. I did that and had very little downtime - it all depends on how lucky you get, really.

Contact the recieving registrar first. When I switched from Verio to eNom, eNom helped me move my service domain without any downtime.

Thumbs up

I am a registrar, and it is absolutely possible to do a seamless transfer.

You should go to your new registrar and fill-in-the-forms to start the transfer. Don't change nameservers. (If netsol is providing nameservice for some strange reason, this might be a problem) In fact, don't change ANYTHING from your old registration, just the registrar. It will take a few days for the transfer to go though, but there will be no downtime.

If you're within a week of expiring (or already expired!) you will probably have problems. I know this sucks, but you'll probably want to renew with netsol, and then immediately transfer if this is the case.

Or if the domain is new, many don't allow transfers on domains < 60 days old.
