In desperate need of a Zone file expert

I have a big mess on my hand with one of my customers. He forgot to tell me that he has an in-house mail server and after a switch of hosting services his e-mails do not work. I know how generous people in this forum are and I wondered if someone would be able to enlighten me?

Thanks so much.

i have done a couple of these... in the process of doing one right now... i also have a question about how to set up records to point to multiple email servers.

the basic concept is to create A records for the mail servers and then to create MX records that point to those named A records...

please, feel free to correct me if this is not right.. also, any one who can chime in on the multiples issue through hspere would be great.

Are you sure you've got this right?

The DNS looks ok, it's the mail server that seems to be missing. Are you sure you have the correct new IP for the mail server?

yeah, it looks like you are referencing mail.straube.com and you want to be referencing ruby.straube.com....

i can't really tell what A record matches up with ruby.straube...but you definitely are not pointing to it with your current records...

sorry, i am not incredibly experienced with this sort of thing, but i have been able to set up a handful without very much trouble...

keep posting if you need more help...

65.160.254.18 was given to me. I have no clue about Zone files and would never voluntarily touch them. I see the entry: ruby IN A 65.160.254.18
in the old zone file so it must have to do something with them.

oh wait... it does look like you have it kinda right... the ip address matches the ruby A record etc... do you have to reference ruby. instead of mail. that is the only item i can see...

mail.straube.com is correct according to the MX record

(straube.com. IN MX 10 mail.straube.com.)

I just don't see a mail server at 65.160.254.18
as referenced here....

(mail.straube.com. IN A 65.160.254.18)

try telnetting to the mail server that is supposed to be at 65.160.254.18

$telnet 65.160.254.18 25

...nothing is there to answer

So I basically need to verify:

1. is this the correct IP address
2. is the mail server even online?
