catch all subdomain
my current DNS settings for my domain are default. I have an A record for *.mydomain.com that should point to my webspace, but instead of going to my main website (the www.domain.com or domain.com) it just seems to go to the servers base website or something.
Is there an easy way to make *.mydomain.com go to my www.mydomain.com directory (not as a redirect)? |

login into the control panel for the domain in question.
select the domain in the edit domain screen, click the edit web services button on the web services screen, scroll down to server aliases, this is where you should see www.yourdomain.com |

yea, i see where server alias is. But is there a way that i wouldnt have to add all the aliases by hand? Where instead I could have a wildcard (*)?
Like for instance, without having to add an alias by hand, being able to go to test1.mydomain.com and have it go to my www dir. |

What about adding an A record in your DNS settings?
*.yourdomain.com -> IP address of yourdomain.com This is "built-in" for my domains, but if it's not for yours, this may do the trick. Take care... |

cipherus, sounds like something is wrong in your setup. By defasult it does what you ask. You might want to send in a trouble ticket and ask support.

ok, so the problem seems to only be with my service domain. All the other domains i set up work properly... any reason why this would be?

It seems as though the only domains that this feature works properly for are the ones that have dedicated IP addresses...
does anybody know why this would be? |

becuase shared IP's use HTTP 1.1 (Host Headers) there has to be an alias setup in the webserver for the URL used to get to the site. where as Dedicated IP's aren't using Host Headers so any request to the IP will display the website.
