Mail server removed

Please let us know next time you shut down the mail/database server.

It's been down for more than an hour for no apparent reason.

Yes PLEASE. Admin replied to another thread just a few minutes ago, which was definitely low priority compared to a mail server being down. What is going on ?

does this count as downtime?
This definitely breaks the 99.9% Uptime

As stated before the 99.9 is Network up time not server uptime.

mySQL has also been fixed.

99.9% uptime is just a marketing catch phrase.
Vortech has good connectivity though and this is important, but what's its use when a website's uptime (with everything up, not just http) is more like 98-99%. Those numbers look good, but we all know what they mean when we're sitting here waiting for our sites to be back up.

Actually it's not just a marketing catch phrase although i see your point. If they say 99.9% Uptime, then they have to stick by it. I was told that our monthly payments would be refunded up to 100% if the uptime goes below.

Yeah, uptime is uptime. If the web server's CAT5 cable could be unplugged every day for an hour without violating the host's uptime guarantee, then that's not much of an uptime guarantee. It really shouldn't be on the site unless they plan to stick with it.

Currently my service domain site is down, because the DNS servers stopped returning an IP address for it. But I guess that doesn't count as downtime.

I received this when i asked the question before i subscribed to these plans...

Your question was the following:
99.9%uptime guarantee

Our Technicians response to your ticket is as follows
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the 99.9% uptime.

Ifyou are down 15 min you get one day credit. If you are down for more then 2 hours you get a month credit up to the full month. Down time must be submited with in 5 days of when the down time took place.

I meant that it's common for a host to offer 99.9% network uptime. You need good network connectivity, many host even have SLAs.

But you server uptime will almost always be lower.
