Ripped Off by VISTA PRINT

Ripped Off by VISTA PRINT

After ordering some business cards from VistaPrint I noticed that I am being ripped off!

I found several charges made to my check card for $14.95.

Please don't use VistaPrint and if you have used them check your statement carefully for fraudulent charges.

This happened after the first time I ordered from them. I used my business check card online. When I looked at my statement I noticed 2 charges each one in the amount of $14.95 from AP9 marketing or something like that.

Just search the web for "ripped off vistaprint" and you will find tons of complaints.

Yeah there are complaints, I thought twice about using them the first time but I've honestly had very good service from them personally have recommended them serveral times and those people who used them have had the same good service I have.

Have you contacted them about the overcharge?, if so how did they deal with your query? IMO people are often all too quick to complain about issues, to me it's not that companies make mistakes, it's how they fix them that I judge them by.

I have contacted my bank and the bank has credited my account for the amount stolen. The bank will conduct a fraud investigation.

My guess is that somewhere in the process of making my online purchase I may have said "I agree" at the bottom of some long page of small print.

Yes not all that unusual for extra services to be bundled on a purchase page like that, just take a look at Godaddy for instance, you do have to be extra careful now when purchasing from places like that, whenever I see a checkout that keeps asking if I want extra this or that I always take a little extra time to validate just what I'm pressing or agreeing too.

Here's hoping that you didn't accidentally agree to anything without realising it like that though because it would normally be considered a binding contract to purchase such services unless they're clearly guilty of being deceptive or misleading in which case you could end up still having to pay the charge

Bubba, there's alot of assumptions and jumping to conclusions going on here (unless you're not posting all of the facts.)

Why would you first jump to your bank and file a "stolen card" report. Why can't you simply call Vista Print? While possibly not common, i certainly wouldn't fret about a mere $14.95 charge - ESPECIALLY before investigating what it really is.

I'm not a fan of Vista Print either, and who konws, they possibly could have had to inadvertanly sign up for something you didn't quite realize. (And with Brangwyn - i too cringe at GoDaddy - they're notorious for stepping throuh tons of "add-ons" during checkout - while convenitely putting the "skip this"links in super-fine-print.)

It could have been a genuine error. What if you accidently charged one of your hosting clients an extra month's worth (maybe about the same $15 worth.) (I personally have to manually charge all of my credit card clients via web panels - i don't have automated billing yet.) How would you feel if the client immediately called foul, called the banks, had you investigated for fraud, and then started posting all over the WWW about how you suck? Wouldn't you have rather a decent phone call, and likely easily taken care of without issue?

But, IMO, you need to do a bit mroe investigating, or at least posting more/all of the details before getting the WWW into a frenzy about a measly 15 bucks.

Well you were correct about one thing in your post and that is I didn't give all the facts and details.

The total taken from my account was close to $150.00 us. It was done in repeated withdrawals of $14.95 sometimes two a day. I was embarrassed to say that I didn’t catch it until my second statement. It was not clear on my statement who was making the charges. There was no reference to Vista Print. All I knew was someone was bleeding money from my account without my permission.

My first step was to report this to my bank. THE BANK instructed me to get a new check card which I did. THE BANK also said they would turn the matter over to their fraud department.

As time passed I tried to figure who had given my credit card info out without my permission. I continued to search the internet using some of the notations on my bank statement next to the charges. When I searched using AP9 I started to see the connection to vista print. That is when I posted here.

hey Bubba... for what it's worth, my credit card was used last month to make all kinds of odd purchases. AP9 was on my statement a few times, but it had nothing to do with Vista Print. I've never used them before. I was able to track down the location of where all the packages were going to and to whom, but that didn't really yield any good info.

In the end, it is a stretch to blame Vista Print, but the AP9 is a pretty common thread from all my searches. In the end, the credit card company couldn't have made it any easier - so while I was pissed off about it happening, so long as companies don't do any AVS, fraud will continue.

This is why I love disposable credit card numbers! Except for trustworthy repeating chargers like Vortech, I always use one-time type credit card numbers. Several banks will now give you a single use card number by online request, and the PayPal debit card has a BHO you can download to create card numbers at the time of on-line purchase. PayPal will even fill in the personal info on the billing page for you.

It cheers me up to imagine some hacker working hard to steal my number from the retailer, knowing the number will be useless to them.
