Looking for advice on problems

I thought I would toss out a problem I have to see what the experts might suggest. I have a low volume site with a shopping cart that generates a lot of sales. For some time, and even more so the last 3 weeks, the shopping cart has been losing $1k-10k a day in very seasonal sales due to unreliability of mysql server timing out during certain periods of the day. It is has a small total size, only 1400 records but a sort or insert takes longer than the 30 second time out setting. The same scripts(oScommerce 2.2) run on my local machine very well and very fast). Tech support says nothing is wrong but it has gotten to the point that I need to find a solution, either a new host, a dedicated box or ?? There are no dedicated boxes available according to the web list.
Are these boxes loaded that heavily that they crawl to a stop or is there a tech problem that is not being addressed?
After years of being with VortechHosting, it seems to be time to move on or figure out how to come up with a reliable fast server/db server combination here.
Is anyone else having problems with mysql.hsphere.cc or the other one we are using mysql5.psphere.cc ?

I cant say I've had any trouble. if the site is generating that sort of money, im sure a dedicated box for it wouldnt be that out of the question would it?

The list of available dedicated servers on our web site is not always up to date. If you're interested in one you should submit a ticket to sales. I know we have some available at the moment.
